What is everyone's big bass baits? I know big bass can be caught on pretty much anything, but I am curious what everyone is throwing when they need a big bite.

Try getting a hold of the Fresno bee fishing report Dave Hurley and Roger George
Are the current editors. In June of 98 Bruce Farris was head of doing the fishing reports. And in 03 I don't remember who the editor was Farris retired in 2000.Im sure they have the pictures archived some where in the sports section of there reports. I did the reports for Eastman and Hensley Lakes for both
Bruce farris and Roger George and then Dave Hurley when hecame on board . I'm sure they can help find them for you if it's that important to you. bigbassdaddy1190

When you are needing a big bite, a jig or swimbait would be on the end of my rod.

Big swimbaits are probably the best way to specifically target giant bass.
My best 5 last year: 11.61, 13.27, 10.40, 12.69, 9.06 all on either soft swimbaits or glidebaits.
Some of my favorite swimbaits: Huddleston, Deps 250, Swaver 168 & 200
PB: Spot-9.625 (Shasta Record) LMB-13.27 SM-4.36

Trout swimbaits work good when the lake has a consistant Hatcuary trout plants and that is a thing of the past in SoCal.
My top 5 giant bass were all caught on my hair jigs with pork rind trailers, during pre spawn, both are rare commodity today.

Back in '71 I made a viper jig head that is basically a wedge shape stand up 7/16 oz football head to slide through rocks without snagging using a 5/0 hook. When Gamakatsu jig hooks became avialble changed Mustad to those in the late 80's. I was using Pedigo pork rind L3 and L4 lizards that are basically a 3/4" wide split tail trailer. Uncle Josh bought Pedigo and discontinued the L3/L4's so I found Super Pork and had Robin make few hundred and they worked great.
The color I call anywhere anytime that is a combination of back top purple middle and rust brown belly that allowed me to use black, purple or brown pork trailers using the same jig. Doug "Skinny" Harris tied them for me. 4 of the 5 giant bass were caught on that hair jig combo. The 18.6 at Casitas was in 1982 and used a black-green-brown combo with barn red L4 trailer.
I used mostly Maxima 10 lb Ultra Green and 12 Big Game mono. As you know can't get bit using heavier line at those lakes and average cast is about 45 yards in 15'-20'of water. I used custom 5 power 6'10" Lamiglas rods and Daiwa TD HTSA reels and 4500C's during that time period.
I developed a reel set/rod sweep hook set that I discribed in detail for In-Fisherman "Horizontal Jigging" in '95.
