Senko rod

Post by nate50 »

Hey everyone, I’m looking at getting a dedicated Senko rod for both 5in and 6in baits. I typically prefer Shimano rods. I was thinking something along the lines of 7’ med fast action. My issue is Shimano doesn’t make an expride in those specs. I checked the Zodias and nothing either. I don’t want to go much lower in quality than the Zodias line, but the mid range model does make those specific actions I believe it was t(e intenza line. I guess my question is what do you guys throw your Senkos on? Thanks for the help

I throw mine on an expride medium spinning rod. It a great rod and I like it for skipping under docks and what not. If I need a little more rod for whatever reason the 7’2” mh expride will also get it done.

7'2" M expride or zodias
7'2" MH expride or zodias
Thats what I use. I've always wanted Shimano to make 7'MH rods in those lineups.
Well, the 2020 Zodias model has a 7'MH. I haven't used it yet, but I'm sure it falls inline with all the Shimano powers and actions.

Do you guys use a fast action rod or a moderate fast on the expride?

Once I found this rod my dedicated 5" & 6" Senko rod search was over. Smallest tick 40 ft away easily detected. And no I'm not a Dobyns fan boy ... I dig my Powells, Kistler's & G. Loomis' too.

Mark - does the med heavy cast the 5in well? My fear is with a med heavy the 5in won’t load the rod well enough on the cast to creat accurate casting.

I say go big or go home, if you can afford it Dobyns Champ Extreme HP Split Cast Rod 7'4" MH 743, $349. Got some 40% off certificates when I bought my Ranger. Amazing senko rod IMO.

Yeah the 5" Senko is a bit light for the Med / Heavy 733 ... I throw 6" Senkos about 95% of the time and do find that I will grab a Kistler Argon Spinning rod (AR-DSNW70M / ARSP702M - Drop Shot Ned-Wacky Rigs Medium Open Water Fast) for the 5" if I'm dedicated to that size Senko for the day / extended period of time. For the 6" the 733 is the best rod I've ever used (so far).

You can spend big money on any rod you like but call me crazy, best senko rod I’ve found is a Walmart graphite ugly stick medium action. I use a 7 footer which casts a 5 inch senko a mile but has plenty of backbone. Best part about that rod is when you get a biggen to the boat and it makes that last run the rod has enough give to keep from breaking your line. I’ve caught multiple fish over 5 lbs and quite a few 7 and 8lbrs with that rod and always gets er done. I fish 5,6, and 7 inch senkos Texas and wacky and it’s a great inexpensive rod.

I use the Fenwick World Class Rod in a 7'3 Medium Heavy in both spinning and bait casting. this is by far one of the lightest and most sensitive rod i have in my arsenal. I highly encourage you to check them out.

I use a 7' Phenix UMB in ML Here in Florida I keep 2 of them on deck 1 with braid and 1 with 20lb Floro.
I can see and feel the fish and have the backbone to pull out of the trash. Best Rod I have ever owned and I moved to them from Loomis
