California’s water future secured by Delta tunnel project

Delta tunnel project would secure California’s water future

The Delta Conveyance Project is a necessary investment to secure California’s water future. Let’s face it, our climate is changing rapidly and becoming more unpredictable – wildfires are larger and more frequent, the seas are rising, droughts are lasting longer and storms are fiercer. The need for this project has never been clearer.

Delta conveyance is the movement of water through the network of waterways in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, the hub of the State Water Project – California’s most critical water delivery infrastructure. Two-thirds of California’s water begins its journey as snowmelt from high in the Sierra Nevada, eventually flowing into the Delta where the State Water Project infrastructure conveys the water to 27 million Californians and 750,000 acres of farmland from Silicon Valley down to San Diego.

But the State Water Project’s 1960-era infrastructure is aging and needs to be upgraded to meet the challenges ahead. As we’ve seen in recent years, the state’s precipitation is increasingly coming in the form of big storms in-between extended dry periods. The State Water Project infrastructure must be improved to be more resilient to climate change and more flexible in its ability to take advantage of big storms by moving water when it’s wet for use when it’s not.

California's water future will be secured by the Delta Tunnel project at the expense of the California Delta whose Ecosystem will be destroyed because of the resultant increase of salt water intrusion from this proposed upstream diversion . The writer attempts to put a happy face on the death of the Cal Delta .

Lets see what the Metropolitan Water District (who is mostly funding the project) has done for water sheds in past years!
One is MWD is located in southern California so that should be our first clue as what and who their alliance will be when it comes to making sure the delta is not harmed, drained or devalued as the largest fish and wild life nursery in California, the entire population of pacific ocean species rely on our delta for reproduction and we have seen by the depletion of the salmon populations what messing with the delta and river systems can do to all species of fish and wildlife!

Owens Valley Reservoir and River; Look up what Metropolitan Water District did for the Owens River and Owens Valley Reservoir some years ago; A once thriving and beautiful water shed and lake supporting, irrigation, recreation and fishing for thousands is now a "Dry Lake Bed" with a ten billion dollar lawsuit against MWD for air quality mediation because they rerouted the Owens River which dried up the lake which now causing huge respiratory health issues for thousands of local residents!

San Joaquin River watershed from Millerton Dam; Another one of MWD projects to move more water to SoCal so they can increase their one billion dollar per month income from residential water users only!!!!
MWD rerouted the San Joaquin River so they could manage our water, well in doing so the river no longer runs its original course mother nature designed and intended and is now a dry river bed in areas and allowed this once beautiful river to become a drainage canal for farm land of southern central California.
Kesterson wild life area which once was inundated with selenium due to this drainage and causing massive issues with wildlife deformations and birth defects and needed tens of millions of dollars (Hundreds of millions in todays money) just to help clean it up.
Bottom line is is degraded what was left of the volume of water making it down the San Joaquin river and into the delta!

MWD is in this 100% for their bottom line and could not give a rats *** about our delta and the eco system, recreation and farm irrigation it provides the central California resident. If they could run a pipe line directly from the rivers to the California aqua duct siphoning every last drop of wate they would, it again is only a profit center for the SoCal water brokers!
