American Bass Anglers (ABA) Kayak Series held their regular season event # 2 on Lake Hodges on Saturday, 3/6/21. A full field of 50 anglers hit the water in the hopes of taking home the title. Skies were clear with the temp ranging from 60 to 65 degrees with water temp in the low 60s. Water clarity was poor at 1-foot visibility. The primary techniques were neko rig and dropshot.
The bite was much tougher than expected. Out of the 50 anglers, there were no five fish limits submitted. Only 13 anglers posted 1 or more fish. The fish that were caught were healthy. 4 of the 18 fish submitted were over 20” with the Big Fish coming in at 22.25 inches and weighing in over 8 pounds. Coming off a recent win at Lower Otay on the SCKA trail, Johnny Bayard of San Marcos, CA was able to find 3 key fish that measured in at 52.75 inches to secure the win.
