Mokelumne River. New Hope Landing?

Post by Derrick »

Thinking about launching a New Hope Landing and going up the Mokelumne River. Are there many hazards to watch out for? Or common sense and a lowrance map will get me through it. Thanks in advance.

The north/south shortcut to Snodgrass slough is full of hazards. I would suggest going around Walnut Grove marina if you're planning on heading north. The slough to Walnut Grove from Wimpys is shallow at low tide but do-able.

Sunken tree branches, sand bars, tight narrow turns it’s got it all. Stay in the middle on all narrow turns cause every turn has a sand bar and slow down-speed kills on the moke. We all slow down for other boats cause it can b dangerous especially on those narrow turns. There’s always a couple idiots that think they can run like wide open. As long as u run it with caution. I don’t know what the other post is talking about but I’m assuming ur running towards hwy 5 bridge. After the bridge where the river splits(consumes)it gets treacherous
