Rod locker repair?

Post by ElGuapo »

Hi all,

The hinge on my rod locker came apart and needs to be replaced.

My usual service place is booked until October.

I'll be coming from Bethel Island. Apart from Boatmasters any suggestions for getting this fixed?

Thanks!

JFYI here's what I'm up against and it's actually worse now, bent.

It looks like the screws that hold the hinge on your rod locker hatch are stripped out! If they will not tighten down, then you will need to address the area where the screws go into. I don't think you need to take it to a boat dealer for that! DIY and save some $$$$$$$ :D

Take off the old hinge. Measure it, order a new one. Kaboom!

Yeah thanks I'm not really a DIY guy and it's a little more complex. I think there are some pop rivets in there and the screws that are in there appear to have corroded and snapped off.

If there's no other alternative I may attempt to replace the hinge myself but this is my baby and I don't think I'll be treating her right. ;-)

Might not be the hinge itself but the rivets or screws pulled through.... if so, you could replace with some new machine screws and nylock nuts with washers on both sides.
