Vessel property tax ?

Post by birdman920 »

Has anyone received their unsecured property tax bill and found that it has gone up ? my bill went up $75 this year from last year ! I thought it was supposed to be deprecated every year , as far as I know the tax rate hasn’t gone up ?

Funny I should read this post. I was just getting ready to call the Assessors office this morning to ask about my increase as well. I'm not well versed on how the unsecured property tax rate is predicated, so time to learn. Mine went up $43. Not going to break the bank but I'm just curious now.

I got mine and it’s well over $800. Next year it just might be a Wyoming resident that visits often. Complete joke considering they appraised at $38k over what I paid.

We really do need to be two states, the major urban voters outnumber the rural counties so I'm afraid it's a downward spiral until the end. I just wish it would hurry up and get here so we can start rebuilding our once great state.

I Posted this before , the County assessors go according to a Nada guide so if the value goes up that's what they adjust to.
I called them years back and was told to get three appraisals and they would think about changing it. They want you to do the leg work. The money doesn't even go to the resource, parks and rec, CHP, to mention a few.
And if you don't pay a lien goes on your name.
Pretty soon you will be taxed for exhaling CO2, your the carbon they want to eliminate.

Just a side note:
My wife paid our unsecured property tax today and when speaking to the person at the county she stated that all property tax on boats (vessels) increased due to !! COVID !! because everyone was home more boats were purchased so they had to raise the amount. * Find that hard to believe *.

I was told the same BS too. Boat prices are up due to covid. I'm also paying my bill this week but I'm also dropping my written appeal off at the assessor's office tomorrow. I can't let this money grab go without a fight.

You can email the form and documentation to the county assessor. They lowered mine from 74k to 58k. Is still more than I paid for it new but closer to the actual value. If Nada was more accurate we would have less problems, that is was they based it off of it looks like. Wonder if when the economy crashes in the future they will lower the valuations as quickly. Even if the values went up doesn’t seem right to tax people on unrealized gains, on something I already paid sales tax on.

$1,1100 and some change for my new Z21. Guess the 10k I paid in sales tax wasn't enough.

But I may win dozens of dollars in a tourny so I guess its worth it. That's what I tell my wife anyway.

Got it down to about $500.00 per fish and dropping.

In years to follow when boat values drop back down to where they should be, you think county assessors will do the right thing and lower our taxes?

Never had a problem appealing the value with comps.

An appeal should be done annually just to keep em honest anyway.

On my next round, I'm asking for a tax credit for my electric TM and see what they come back with. :P

Good luck!

I just paid my bill but at the same time, I paid the $30 and I contested mine because they say my vote appreciated 25% more than what I paid last year. That’s absolutely ridiculous. I asked the lady at the counter if they had been inundated with appeals because of the Higher property taxes on boats. She said that I was only the second person to turn in an appeal to her. I’m sure more people have appealed downtown but I used the satellite office on Hazel Avenue to drop off my paperwork. I encourage everybody to take some sort of action instead of just talking about it. File an appeal and let them know that we’re not happy they are gouging us for more money. This is simply a money grab.

I( have a 2014 Ranger Z521. When I got the Personal Property tax assessment this year, they assessed it at $76,000 with a tax due of $830. I called with an appeal, they never called back, but 2 days before the bill was due, I got a letter saying they made a "mistake" with a new assessment of $50,000 (still high for what these are selling for). I got the new bill this week and now owe "only" $530. Still think that's high but getting tired of fighting, likely could only get it lowered a few more dollars. But you are right, these guys leave no stone unturned to take more of our EARNED money to give it away to those they feel more deserving, or flush it down the toilet on crazy projects. We get the government they have bought over the years.

Ca is the highest taxed state in the union And Hawaii . Is the second highest taxed state in the union you have to get over it. It's not going to change anytime soon. The only way to change it is move to a different state with a different tax structure.

The problem is we in Ca stand for it or just get over it so it spreads to other states

After some back and forth, i won my appeal and they dropped their estimated value by about $5000. I still haven’t received my refund for my overpayment yet. It wasn’t the amount I wanted but I feel better about it now.
