Tournament bass fishing

Post by brossiah »

Hello. Somewhat a beginner angler here.

I would like to get involved in tournament bass fishing with active clubs. I am trying to participate in a tournament with Gillroy Bassmasters in mid october, but I would like to know if anyone has any other recommendations for bass clubs in the Bay Area.

Links are updated if clubs give us new links.
Referenced it as a place to start so that even if links were broken maybe the club could be found by searching name.

Back in the days of the old Norcal Bass club someone would have thrown you an invite or assistance to help you get started, Our old friend Cooch would have jumped right on it!
The new NorCal bass club based out of the delta looks to be taking up some of that slack and they would probably be happy to steer you in the right direction; Look them up right here on the site!
I am no longer in the area but there are several bass clubs in the bay area as well as the valley and Western Bass is the best forum to find them!
Call the clubs and the tournament directors and ask them if they have any boaters that are looking for team partners as well as look into any Pro Am clubs to which you can sign up as a non-boater, Dont be shy or intimidated as all these guys started out just like you prior to fishing their first bass tournament!

I got a chance to meet some incredible people and some great fisherman by fishing the ProAms and the local and regional clubs are exactly the way to do it!

If you don't have a boat, pick a club near you and go to a meeting and introduce yourself, and ask if anyone is looking for a partner. You wanna do this before new years as this is the "off" season and your best bet is finding somebody before the season starts. Once the season starts it affects points in AOY runs and such, and finding a "pard" will become more difficult as most teams stick together. I'd try to get into as many pro/ams as possible as an am, but instead of getting caught up trying to win the event, go instead to learn as much as possible each day from each new guy. This is one of the best ways to learn not only fishing skills but also the flow of tournament fishing on a larger scale than just a club. good luck out there
