2009 Evinrude ETEC 115. Looking for options
2009 Evinrude ETEC 115. Looking for options
The cowling was damaged in a garage fire and the boat totally destroyed but I cannot see any damage to the engine with all covers removed. Looking for mechanic to check it out and repair as necessary, then put it up for sale. Can pay for your time or work out some profit-sharing deal. Contact me to work something out.

First of all in my opinion what you have is a damn good engine. Unfortunately, since Boatmasters in Livermore closed back in February I don’t know of anyone that will work on an Evinrude. With that said there are a few out there that will work on it. What I’m hearing is parts are getting harder and harder to find. Because of all this my advice is to be careful how much you spend on the engine because you probably aren’t going to like what someone is willing to pay for it. Again, it’s not because you have a crappy engine, it’s because what you have went out of business several years ago and the market for a used Evinrude is very soft. Probably not what you want to hear, but it’s reality in the current market. The fact that Mercury bought Evinrude is a good indication of the quality of the engine.ChuckP wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 8:32 am The cowling was damaged in a garage fire and the boat totally destroyed but I cannot see any damage to the engine with all covers removed. You're probably better off just selling it as is. I wouldn't put any money into it especially since the cowl and I assume controls are toast. Bob's marine in Modesto will work on it but you have to be able to get it there.

What would be a fair price to sell Evinrude ETEC 115 as is?
I also have a Ranger 17 foot boat trailer. Was damaged in fire but I have repainted, replaced all lights, replaced all carpet, even replaced hubs. Like new. What would be a fair price for the trailer.

To get any real money for it your going to have to sit on it and hope somebody with a like motor blows there's up so they can just hang your motor on their boat and add their cover and rigging.
Advertise it and start it out at $2K or so and see what happens. It won't sell for that unless someone has a like motor they want to replace and the price would probably be contingent if the motor ran right once it was installed.
I sell parts and will give you $700 for it so don't go less then that. I may go a little more if I can get it started and able to see it running.
As for the trailer.....I would price it at $1500 and hope someone with the same type of boat needs a trailer and see's your ad. You might get $1K for it after they talk you down. They always talk you down. It's going to take time to sell. You will most likely be sitting on it for along time. If you sell it as a boat trailer for a 17' boat it's probably worth more in the $500 range.
Get the items listed with a high price and expect to be talked way down but you never know you may get a desperate buyer that's willing to pay a fair price.

After hooking up battery, gas tank, oil tank, and replacing ignition switch, bypassing neutral safety switch. Turned on start switch and engine streeted and ran for about 10 seconds before I turned it off. Ran good but water not supplied yet and I wanted to avoid any possible damage. Amazing!
I have ordered the diagnostic cable and diagnostic software. I will check for errors before I try starting it again. But it looks like there are no significant problems.
Any suggestions on how to install diagnostic software on windows 11 ( instructions are for windows 10 ).
I am not a mechanic and no very little about engines. What do I look for with diagnostics? Is there a mechanic in the Gilroy area that will work on an Evinrude E-TEC?

Try Youtube on how to get that software to work
So it ran fine prior to the fire. You got it running after the fire and it appeared to be good but you didn't hook up water so you shut it off. Hook it up to water and run it for a while. I would run it on a 50:1 mix just in case since you're warning buzzers might be fried. Place your hand on the head every now and then to check the temperature. If it gets so hot you can't place your hand on the head for 1-2 seconds then its probably getting to hot.

They're the best and probably only authorized Evinrude mechanics in the Bay Area.
