Barrett Cove Launch McClure ramp closed for Bike Race?

Post by Fast Eddie »

So looking towards the third CBL event at McClure next weekend (11/15) and see a facebook post from the TD that he was notified by DF&G yesterday that the BC launch ramps will be closed due to a Bike race.  I've booked a cabin (awhile back) so I'd be close. But if the ramps (there are 2 there) are closed am I going to get access to my Cabin?
I called the Merced District and was told there is no problem getting to the cabins. Is this "bike" race running circles around the parking lots? :?:  How can this be? None of this makes sense.
So the tournament is now moved to McClure point. (Where ever that is) In looking at the map it looks like:
1. I lose the sleep I was saving by booking the cabin.
2. I have to drive almost all the way down Merced Falls Road to Snelling( :?: :?: ) then back up McClure
Lake Road to get to the new launch facility, as there doesn't appear to be a through road.
3. Fueling is going to be an issue after 2 days of practice.

So I guess my question is ................should I chuck the fishing gear and bring a bicycle instead?
This is so typical of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. The loss of revenue Barrett Cove is losing (50 boats and trailer fees) for bicycles. Someone must have a lot of money to close off a public area like that. Why can't TD's do that for tournaments, that way there we wouldn't have to contend with pontoon boat drivers/launchers/receivers and ski/wake boats launching and receiving watercraft. Fish would be returned to the water much faster.
OK through with my rant. Now to figure how to get there from Barrett Cove.
