Help with info please

Post by Gary Dobyns »

Guys can I get some updates on bodies of water in NorCal and this crazy mussel crap. I have friends that drove their boats out from Alabama and Mississippi to crappie fish Clear Lake. They'd like to fish some other NorCal lakes not too far from Clear Lake. I don't know what bodies of water and what the inspection protocol is. I know what Oroville is. But what about Sonoma, Black Butte, East Park, Stony Gorge? I won't mention Berryessa as I know it's a pain in the a$$. Today at Clear Lake I had a DOG inspection for mussels before I could launch. This was the first time I've even heard of this. The people were very cool, after the dog cleared me, they asked if they could "plant" a cotton swab with mussel scent on my boat. Hell, I had to see this shi* :) The Chocolate Lab very quickly found it. So, dog inspections are for real!! As a labrador lover I found this part pretty cool. I sure love TEXAS where we get to skip all of this mess. Any help guys??? THX in advance.

I had the dog inspect my boat about 2 years ago at Redbud because I came from So Cal and most of our lakes have Zebra and Quagga. I did hear this year they were using the dogs more to sniff the boats because of the golden mussel problem and confirmed it when I called Clear Lake Bait & Tackle a few days ago. I also called Clearlake Outdoors and they advised if your boat has been in an mussel infested lake, they offer a decontamination service at a facility close by, which is great and convenient.

As far as the other Nor Cal lakes it seems as though every lake is handling it different and having some type of inspection and/or quarantine. This is the best I could find with some info on different lakes but it doesn't have every lake on the list. Keep in mind things could have changed since they made this list. Each lake seems to be handling it differently or not at all possibly.

Thanks, Bassin247 for the links. It's a huge help.
RMANZO thanks for the welcome back, I do watch.
Mark, I don't know how to post that link. It was a hell of a prank and so easy to do in today's world, many don't realize that was made in the late 80's by a bunch of friends, sadly most have passed on.

Thanks guys!!!

There's a huge difference between a mussel planted cotton swab and a couple or two microscopic mussels that are hanging out in a bilge. It's a joke, a lie, and we all need to move to Texas or somewhere else accommodating.

Gary

I do not believe any of the lakes you mentioned in the valley have any tagging or quarantine or decontamination regulations. Berryessa is one of the toughest but you can get your boat decontaminated at the lake or Gone Fishin Marine can also do it and you can launch that day with the tag and wire on your boat. They will retag the boat when you leave.

Berryessa and Solano County Decontamination stations will also work on Folsom but the tag from Folsom after you launch will not work at Berryessa. (yea I know)

You know Oroville has an inspection but just clean and dry. Shasta is the same just have to be clean and dry no tagging.

Hope this helps......

I believe that Sonoma is just an inspection for Clean and Dry at the launch ramp but no tagging or decon.
