Tow vehicle MPG??

Post by DougH »

My Envoy gets about 14 mpg, and my old dodge Cummins got about 18. I want a tow vehicle that does better. I wish my wifes Toyota Prius could tow at 50 mpg.
What does your rig get??

My Tahoe, 13-14 MPG. Plenty good for me along with the size and comfort, I'm happy.

I get a big whopping 12.7 when towing the ranger. Climbing hills it never seems to find the right gear even when using the tow option on hills. The engine will ahift and the RPM's will drop to 2k. Constantly having to excelerate to bring up the rpms. Engine just can't find a happy medium. Not sure what the rear gear ratio is. that may be the problem

Time for a new tow vehicle

DougH,

Just curious as to why you got rid of your Dodge Cummins?
I have one and I get 17 mpg.

13-14 at 55.

But I can accelerate and pass towing my 20' Cat like one of my smaller trucks with no load at all.

My daily to work drive is between Camarillo and Ventura, the crappiest stretch of freeway known to mankind. It made my Dodge shake so bad it blurred my vision, as well as upset my stomach. Couldn't take it anymore.
Other than that I loved that truck, and if I could do it all over again, I'd a bought a cheap used honda to drive to work!

That's what I did. I've got 330,000 miles on my Honda now and it's still going.

1999 Chevrolet Suburban 2wd 5.7 Vortec auto. 120,000 on the odometer. An honest 12-13 towing, around town 15-16, and a long freeway trip as good as 18mpg. Remember a trip we took in it New Year before last. Left Vegas for the Grand Canyon. Coming back fueled in Kingman, Az. Drove up to Vegas, and then on home to what was Roseville, Ca at the time. Made it all the way to Modesto on that tank 606 miles later. That was the time it got it's BEST mpg!!! :D
