Post by bassaddicted »

i fished calero today also
i had to fish more reaction baits today into the wind to keep that line tight
i did catch 2 fish on a jig but hardly felt the bite,no tap,no thump just kinda felt funny
the rest of the fish came on either buzzbait or at sunset throwing a frog got my best 3 of the day
i didnt realize how windy it was till i saw that flag blowing,i thought i was gonna get skunked.
not a bad day for calero, but my hats off to you
i was at the weigh in at calero for the coyote thang to see how i woulda done and was amazed at the amounts of good fish that were caught with so much pressure on the lake and with 21 lbs winning

how did you catch your fish at anderson and calero

I Dont know antyhing about Calero but in the wind find a wind blown bank and throw some spinner baits. You can almost always catch a fish like this. Thst and try drop shoting with a heavyer weight on the same wind blown bank! I hope this helps!

I was there today too...I almost turned around at the gate cause my canoe doesn't like the wind to much. I caught one, about 3lbs., after I anchored by an "underwater island" on my 3rd cast. After moving from there I tried to drift with the wind, it was just way to winding for drifting a dropshot. I almost have my elec. motor set up completed which definently would've helped. It was cool that there weren't hardly any people out there. I think the only other person was raymond. Was that you raymond? I had the green canoe w/ a little outboard. It sucks they won't let you stay on the lake at least till the sun goes all the way down.

Well, this is my first post here...after some lurking around for a few weeks. Hopefully it wasn't too long and/or boring...haha

If anyone has any tips for a new bassfan feel free to hook it up. I grew up in Alaska so I have fishing knowledge, just not bass specifics.

Cheers!

Congrats on your finish in the tourney. You guy's did a great job fishing aginst some pretty good sticks (It's gotta be the boat! J/K)

As for the windy days at Calero - If the fish are shallow spinnerbaits around the weeds, flip the grass with plastics, or drop shot the weed/rock edges. I was there three times over the last 12 days or so and the better fish seem to be moving deeper everyday (away from the dying weeds). There are still a few quality fish shallow but not like 3 weeks ago. My biggest fish shallow on my last trip was 5lbs but only had 3 good bites in 4 hours of fishing (missed one blow-up on frog also). Moved out to 15'-20' of water with dropshot (bold bluegill/margarita mutilator) and spinnerbait (chart/white 3/8 oz) and landed 7 fish to 3lbs in about an hour. The wind can get pretty nasty out there and sometimes it is best to put your boat on the bank and fish the area slowly from shore (especially effective with the dropshot) if the fish won't take a crankbait (which they haven't really eaten very well lately for me). Keep working out it - our local lakes will be kicking out some real big fish over the next couple of months. Just put your time in.

BTW - My partner and I were the ones with 21lbs at the same tourney :D PM me bassaddicted if in you are interested in fishing any of our local lakes for bass or stripers. I am off to fish for some Ealge Lake trout this Friday but will be back soon. Good luck

STRANGE YOU WOULD ASK WHAT TO DO, AFTER WINNING SECOND PLACE AND GOOD MONEY IN THE TOURNAMENT. SEEMS YOU MIGHT ASK WHAT TO DO NEXT TOURNAMENT IF AND WHEN THE WIND DOES'NT BLOW ?? "AH HA" !

Thanks for the welcome mac...I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can.

Yeah, I tried a rat-l-trap and a crank for a little bit too. Didn't get any hits.

Do the bass tend to stay in the deep all winter?

Cheers!

There are some bass that can always be found in the shallows..Keeping that in mind also know that most will move to deeper waters when the water cools..Some of those will sometimes return to the shallows to feed..Generally speaking though you will find the majority of the fish in deeper waters once the water turns cold..

hey thejerbs yeah that was me in the only boat on the lake.
saw you canoeing around.

ill have to say there is still a shallow bite going on although the window is very short.was out there today(sun) and got a 3.5 and 4.6 on a frog and a 7.9 on a buzzbait.

i hate the time limitation on calero suns up already before the gates open and the bite just starts gettin good when you gotta get off the lake
