71-Pound Striper Catch for Angler of the Year Award

Falmouth, MA. Connecticut based fishing guide and MAXIMA Pro Staffer, Joe Diorio, captured the coveted Striper Cup Angler of the Year - Boat Division award presented at the 2018 StriperFest in Falmouth.

The fish pictured above was one big reason he grabbed top honors.

The Block Island Sound Monster, caught and safely released, measured 54" long, with a girth of 32.5", making it an estimated 71 pounds.

Block Island Sound is known for it's big Stripers, and Diorio is no stranger to these massive bass, where he routinely catches bass in the 48"-52" range. "I was lucky enough to get a 70 pounder today", said Diorio . But he's being modest. Dioro won the 2015 Catch and Release Category in the Striper Cup tournament.

Then in 2016 Diroio caught the Connecticut State record Redfish; a fish 19.8 LB and 38.5" long. Diorio joined the MAXIMA Pro Staff in 2015 and started a quickly growing guiding business in 2017.
