Re: would like to put my 6yr old boy on some bluegill...help
Try Woodward, Discovery Bay, or the docks at/around Orwood.
If you are willing to drive up to Clear Lake, there are some monster bluegill spawning right now in the north end of the lake. I was actually mistaking them for small bass (which are still spawning too).
Good luck!

Re: Lunker Punker
I recommend using either the Palomar knot or the San Diego knot. I throw the Punker on braid because, as you are soon to find out, you can cast this bait a mile and a half! The braid makes it easier to walk while your bait is way out there, and if you get hit, the minimal stretch of braid gives you ...

I don't see why not. They could even have a hydrostatic release for the belts if they went under water.

To me it looks like the bill is both lopsided and crooked on the ones that don't swim. If yours is the same, you might have to shave down the bill a bit to make it level.

I think you can let them sit in distilled water for a bit and it will help.
Someone (I think John at Walton's Pond) told me to do this a few years ago, but I'm not positive it was him. It couldn't hurt to call his shop and ask though.
Hope this helps.

For the knot, I use the Slim Beauty knot as it is thinner and it goes through the guides of the rod easier. It is pretty easy to tie, and it is strong too.
