Re: What type of kick/belly/yak/toon boat do you own?
Just bought my first fishing kayak yesterday, an Ascend FS10. Been wanting a kayak for a while now. This'll replace my float tube. http://i360.photobucket.com/albums/oo45/ndschwartz/Kayak01.jpg http://i360.photobucket.com/albums/oo45/ndschwartz/Kayak02.jpg http://i360.photobucket.com/albums/oo45/nds...

I got a Caddis Navigator II float tube. No special rigging except for a small tackle bag zip-tied to the side to allow for extra storage.

Awesome! The float tube is what I mostly fish from. It'll be great to hear how other tubers approach their fishing. Thanks for setting this up!

If you want to avoid the really curvy roads, try taking 580 to 101, then drive up 101 until you reach the 20. 20 will take you to the lake.

Re: encroachment
I think the worst encroachers are those air boats at Clear Lake. You could be busy fishing a weed patch, and those noisy air boats will go right over the weeds your fishing, spraying them and ripping them up. Makes me rage, cause I almost always run into them at Clear Lake...

Nice! Thanks for posting this! I've always had a hard time fishing Clear Lake in November. I'll be up at Clear Lake next week too, camping and fishing the state park in my float tube Sunday-Tuesday. Looking forward to some hot bassin' and catfishin'!

I'm not from the Northwest but I come up to Portland a few times each year to hang out with my brother, and we do some bassin' on the Columbia and Willamette River as well as Henry Hagg Lake. Some nice smallmouth in the rivers.

Re: silent crank baits
I agree with the above. Let the fish decide. In addition to what they suggested, you can also try quiet cranks when the fish are under a lot of pressure. When a bunch of folks are tossing noisy cranks at them all the time and they ain't biting, a quieter crank might end up being the ticket. Try this...

The major media corporations hate him hahaha. Unfortunately, media coverage is a vital aspect of the election process - but without fair and balanced coverage, it's not quite a fair and balanced election either. One has to turn to smaller media sites on the internet to get better coverage. If you ai...

I've done my best drop-shotting with Roboworm's straight-tail. I generally use the 6" worms, but when I sense the fish are wanting a smaller presentation I'll downsize to the 4.5".

I've got a camping trip planned for the first week of August. I'm a little worried about the algae and toxins. I almost ordered a nice, tax-free custom F-150 while I was out in Iraq, but then I made the mistake of mentioning to the dealer that I was getting out of the service - I'll never make a mistake like that again.

Re: Crank Bait reel
I use 5 to one reels for cranking. I do not think you can effectively slow down the retrieve on a 7 to one. Most of the time I am not burning a bait so the 5 to one gives me better control and feel for the bait's contact with structure and wobble. +2 I tried a 7to1 on my cranking rod for a while, b...

Black and white. It's what I find myself using the most (though when I'm at Clear Lake I'm often throwing the tweety out there alot too, but b&w is all I throw at the Delta).

For the most part, I only use mono for crankin. I prefer the Trilene XL and Trilene Big Game for crankin. I occasionally use Sensation for carolina rig leaders and split shotting. For almost everything else I use fluoro and braid.

Re: Froggin' is hard work!
Tell me about it! I was using the frog a lot out on Clear Lake on Friday, but I got stuck using a heavy 8'6" rod which was very awkward and tiring to use from a float tube - especially from a short-armed guy like me! My hand is still sore from popping that frog with that cumbersome rod... but i...
