Re: Fishing Line
Hey J4B, my wife and I are still back east but my daughter sent pics of the jigs and bladed jigs you sent. They looked awesome, she even thought they looked "cool". Again, thanks for your generosity truly appreciated.

Re: Fishing Line
I think for now I'll keep it simple and maybe experiment with others lines later. For retirement I opted for a Ranger Z185 with a 150 instead of a 20' and 250HP ( saved thousands) could care less about 70MPH but rough water is a consideration for a bigger boat in time. It seems tournament fishing dr...

Re: Fishing Line
Lots to process but I think for now I'll try Jiggin4bass approach and keep it simple and budget friendly. Switch if I think it will help but have to learn to find and catch them first. Thanks for all the input and discussion.

Re: Fishing Line
Thanks for all the input. It seems for me, now, I can just get by with mono except for a few techniques where braid would be better. Concentrate on finding the fish and what they'll hit. KISS Keep It Simple Stupid or Simpy or Sally or,,,,,

Fishing Line
I understand selling new products, technology and the latest and greatest helps drive the bass fishing industry but a person can go nuts trying to keep up. I was wondering are there still people using predominately mono line. It seems Mr. Dance, Martin, Parker, Clunn etc. did well before flouro etc.

Re: Ok, what boat to buy
Thanks for all the feedback. I am amazed at the price of new boats. Are there any real deals during the International Sportsmans' Expo show at Cal Expo in January? Seems like getting a quality used boat with warranty might be the best way to go.

Popper, mostly recreation but hopefully get into a club then who knows.
Monte what do you like about the Bass Cats and Skeeter?
Anybody have experience with Phoenix, seems like the 721 Pro is reasonably priced.

Re: Ok, what boat to buy
Thanks J4B and WRB. One other thing was a budget of around 75K so could go new Nitro or nice used other. Thoughts? There seems to be a lot of pro and con with Nitro, not so much with the others.

Ok, what boat to buy
Recently retired and have the ok to get into a newer or new boat within a year so I'm looking for experiences and opinions on the different makes and models. Sticking with Ranger, Nitro, Phoenix, Bass Cat and perhaps Skeeter. I have dealers relatively close for those, not sure on Bass Cat. 20 ft. bo...

Re: Battery question
Thanks for the replies. I was able to jump it with the 2 good deep cycles then run on alternator. Got it loaded and parked. The NextGen Lithium sounds like a possibility. What on board chargers are used. Also, will they sit for 6 months without any problems, parked with no plug in for charger.

Battery question
I have one starter and 3 deep cycle batteries in my boat. The starter and one deep cycle will not take a charge. I have a switch to jump the motor from the deep cycles and get it started which I did. My question - if the 2 deep cycles are fully charged can I start and run the boat a few miles with a...

Re: Casting small crankbaits
Thanks Tom, I have a med/lite casting rig for 3/16 - 1/4 oz tex worms I'll try. Figured it was the tumbling, tried sidearm, underhand and overhand casts to minimize it. Any suggestions on rods and reels? I know that opens a whole can of worms.

Casting small crankbaits
Trying to learn this sport and came up with a new problem Casting small crankbaits on a spinning rod kept tangling the line on front treble. How to keep this from happening? Does a baitcaster or snap take care of this? Thanks for any help.

Enjoy your vids and have a question for anyone who reads this. Between minute 5 and 6 a boat comes in to your area, I wouldn't even think of doing that, is that acceptable behavior and courtesy?

Re: Line visibility
Thanks for the insight, didn't realize it made that big a difference in running depth of cranks. Hard to believe fish would be line shy after seeing those trebles, weights etc.

Line visibility
I seem to be watching a lot of videos lately and thought I'd throw this out there. Looking at crankbaits underwater the hooks look extremely out of place and easily seen so is line diameter that important as far as visibility to the fish?

Re: Ranger or Nitro
The new boat won't be here for another week in the mean time the dealer said to go ahead and fish from the Nitro. Went out opened the left rod locker and the strut fell off. Somehow unscrewed itself, can't contract it back or twist it so if one end is tightening the other end is loosening. If I had ...

Re: Ranger or Nitro
Thanks for the input guys. We rode in a Ranger Z520 on the lake where we have our Nitro Z18. A world of difference which is what got us to thinking the change. Being retired we figured why not get exactly what we want and won't have any regrets so today we bought the Ranger. I can say this is a lot ...

The boat I got had a Lowrance Hook 5 at the dash which I had moved up front and a elite 7 replaced it in the dash. Trouble viewing the 5 up front so considering moving the 7 up front with a swivel mount and a 9 in the dash, or just have 2 7's or 9 up front and keep 7 in dash, any thoughts or suggest...

What 5-6 baits
I have recently retired and want to spend a lot of time bass fishing. Re: Bass Pro rods and reels
Thanks for the input guys, so many choices out there. I have a friend who still fishes with an Ugly Stick and an old Mitchell 300, he also bought a 1000 yds of mono once for cheap, cast a spinnerbait a long ways because the line broke in mid air. No point in saving a lot of money for something that ...

Bass Pro rods and reels
I'm looking for any personal reviews or experience with BPS rods and reels. I just bought a boat and get 20% off their line of products. They seem to have them priced for any budget so figured I could save some $ if they're worth it. I think I can get 10% off any other product line as well. Thoughts?

Thanks guys. I'll have something to go with next time. Are the trees that line the channel a better bet than those on a flat, in general. There are so many in a large area that I'm trying to narrow down where to start, it all looks good.
