Just as an observation, Guys like Aaron, Zank, and Dick Trask would outfish most of the tournament field any day / everyday if you gave them nothing but 1940's era black dacron line to fish with. :)

Great Stuff Tom! Will add a couple of points. Flourocarbon lines exhibit lower knot strength because they suffer greatly from the friction when tightening your knots. 5. Bass are line shy. You need light line to get bit in clear water.

6. You'll get bit better on green line than clear. Flourecent line and colored lines scare fish big time.

Keep the faith. I've recovered 3 lost rods over the years. Last one was this past Saturday out of 20' at lake Piru. Lost it the week before and the return trip was the charm. Even got one out of 50' my kids tossed in several years ago. Just mark the spot, work it smart and don't give up!

I am no expert per se since I am not in the rod manufacturing business, but I do know a thing or two about them from a user's stand point. The med, fast and extra fast terms actually have more to do with the taper of the rod and its action. A fast action will be far more parabolic than a slow taper....

Lots of factors can be at work here. You didn't mention the type of big motor you have. I can tell you that Merc Opti-max motors draw current even while off. That is how they keep the computer memory loaded. Every time you get off the water, put your chargers to work recharging all of your batteries...

The previous answers pretty much cover it. Fish don't breathe the "O" in H2O. They breathe the additional disolved "O2" that is present to varying degrees in water.

Tournaments with the proper permits from DFG will usually get a variance to allow competitors to keep 5 fish 13" or larger in their livewells on Castaic. Those fish are to be released back into the lake after weigh in, naturally.
