Re: 8 inch hudd advice

While I've thrown 8" Hudds on both the Dobyns 806 and 807, I prefer throwing the 8" Hudds with a jig hook on the 807 for better hook sets. The Butch Brown rigged 8" Hudds are fine with the 806, but again the little stiffer 807 works better on the jig hook IMHO.

Re: High participation tournament cost turning fishermen away

Could be why kayak tourneys/trails are growing in popularity due to lower costs. Savings in gas, registration, maintenance, etc. on a bass boat alone versus a kayak would be huge IMHO.

The best inches to weight chart estimate I've seen is this one, but it still varies from lake to lake and even fish to fish because of girth also. My estimate on 90.75" is ~17 lbs IMHO.

Guys, If you need more confirmation ask Bill Cox (F&G). He wieghed the fish and confirmed the size and weight. He took a scale from the fish and verified it was the first 200 planted from lake berryessa to lake Somoma. Any questions let me know, Steve Thank you and cool stuff to know, like didn...

I was up at Lake Sonoma a week ago last Wednesday and it was muddy even before the last rains we got. The fishing is going to be tough with the water levels rising after each storm, and then dropping from the releases to lower lake levels again also I would think!

I prefer Cabela's over BPS, but BPS will price match if you ask. Just give them who and how much so they can confirm it and once confirmed they match. Took me ~24 hours before they confirmed. I had gift cards to BPS given to me so thats how I found out by asking, otherwise I'd have picked Cabela's.

Thanks for the report and glad you bring this up because I've also seen miss handling of fish at other events in different lakes and wondered where CDFW was? I don't own a bass boat, but would something as simple as having livewells and tank checked right before the tourney be feasible?

Simple option would have been to offer to help or let them know they should seek help in reviving their fish. Good post Mark! I believe the weight he was referring to was a torpedo type weight put into the fishes mouth which lowers them deep into the water to relieve the pressure. This method should be the least invasive assuming your fun fishing and not in a tournament where that won't be an option. I thi...

Re: Fish Handling from Tourneys

Personally, I fizz fish through the mouth. For me, it's the simplest, most fool-proof method for on-the-water fizzing, because you can do it entirely in, or just above, the livewell, so it doesn't involve excessive handling of the fish, which can remove it's slime coat and further stress it. There ...
