Re: I need help on picking a rod

I’m not an expert on rods but for those that are they will need to know things like

1 is this the only rod you will use for everything or
2 what technique(s) do you plan to do? Cranking? Frogging? Punching? Spinnerbaits? Chatterbaits……etc……….
3 what’s your budget?

My fishing partner and I will be at El Salto January 10-15. Not sure how good the fishery is at New Hogan these days, but because it's Army Corps of Engineers it's very reasonably priced. Black Butte can also be added to ACE list

I haven’t fished Don Pedro in many many years, but I have some good memories of fishing there in my mid twenties early on in my bass fishing addiction. My vote Caracal. I have one and love it. I have ridden in plenty of 20'ers and say the Caracal rides as good or better. Plus it is easier to move around in tight spaces. best of both worlds. Lots of guys running them on the Delta, I'm in So Cal so can't give a ride, but I bet you could get a test r...

Re: 519 or 520? And why?

I've always really liked my Earl Bentz built 2000 Triton TR19. I think the nearest Caymas dealer is in Washington state, but I could be wrong. Check this out. The only negative is it appears to be priced right up there with Basscat.

Re: Buoyed Off Whiskey Slough

To my knowledge the ramp is open to the public Monday-Thursday, at least the last I saw. The reason they aren't open to the public on the weekend is because a logjam is created on the ramp and in the parking lot. Whiskey Slough stores hundreds of boats and the guys that work their need the space to ...

It's been like that for several years. I went by there about a week ago and it was hard to see. Appeared to be just a rope going across without many buoys holding it up. I believe its to help keep the hyacinth out of Whiskey Slough. That place was choked off to the outside world a few years ago. Yo...

I’m no expert but I wouldn’t think driving 35-45 would work a 150 too hard on a 19’ boat. I usually discourage using less than the maximum horsepower that a boat is rated for, but usually guys are looking for maximum performance

This sounds like a decent price considering the low hours on the Yamaha. If the seats and carpet are in good shape you should be ok and you can always offer less. I’ve never seen used boats sell for more than they are these days.

I used to whack them on lipless crankbaits from early spring through late fall on the Delta. I can hardly catch a decent sized fish on them the past couple of years. The squarebill has been way more effective for me.
