Biological Clocks and Circadian Rhythms

As promised. Bit of a concept to grasp at first but its been researched for the past 75 years. To date, I haven't seen anything to put the results so far in understandable language. Took me quite a while to grasp the concept involved. That fish (and other animals including humans) have two layers of...

Re: Solunar bite times.

Here we go. Part 3. Tom (WRB), have a look at the references to Biological Clocks and Circadian Rhythms towards the last bit of this part and spread throughout the internet. This is the scientific stuff that Knight needed to have concentrated on in 1936 only it wasn't around then. Anyway, he thought...

Re: Solunar bite times.

Part 2 Nearly there, Tom. Pages 2 and 3 show where Knight's solunar theory went "off the rails". He made the fatal but simplistic error in assuming that clams were so far down the evolution scale that they couldn't possibly have the internal ability to respond to changes, so the real trig...

Sorry WRB. Never heard of the Cosmic Clock OR the Bass Calendar. Have heard about Rhythms though but I don't think they're the ones you are talking about.

I'd better put up Part 1 of what I found.

It looks like I can only put up 3 pages per post so it'll have to be spread over 3 separate posts.

These predicted bite times are fairly popular over here. Seeing that the Moon-Up / Moon Down theory originator (Bob Wall) was from US, I guess they'd be pretty popular over there too. I tried a little book called Anglers' Almanac in 2002-2004 to test its accuracy. Didn't work out after 3 years, so d...

Re: How vibrations are generated by a lure

Here's why we don't have to take a calculator with us when we go fishing or buying lures. We know that the fish lateral line has evolved over thousands/hundreds of thousands a year to have best response @ 10 hz. Technical/scientific stuff again. That translates to 600 beats/revs per minute. So we gi...

Re: How vibrations are generated by a lure

How do these 6 pages translate into something useful for any lure fisherman? Well, we know that a fish's lateral line has evolved over many thousands of years to detect low frequency vibrations. eg 10 hz. What does 10 hz mean? It means 10 cycles/beats per second. Still doesn't mean much? It translat...

How vibrations are generated by a lure

Hello all. Back again. The "fathers of lure vibration" had this subject all sorted out in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Vincence Strouhal and Theodore Von Karman. Von Karman went on to work for NASA. They knew nothing about fishing but their work on hydro-and- aero/dynamic vibrations was pre...

Good to see discussion. I don't believe that vision is the prime sensory tool that bass use to obtain food. To me that job resides with the lateral line. It works no matter what the conditions. In addition, a fish doesn't simply rely on one sensory organ alone to find food. Food for survival is too ...

I made a comment in the last post about the silver hooks vanishing under UV. Well, UV comes from the sun and we can't stop it penetrating the water. So it enhances any fluro color in the water but not probably to the same degree as a "UV" torch (more concentrated beam). A fluro color will ...
