Re: HDS 8 Gen2 vs Gen2 Touch - what are differences?

An HDS Key Pad unit will have the black box module included for the LSS-2 transducer in that bundle. A Touch unit only needs the LSS-2 ducer. There are so many differences in the two models it's hard to cover them all. The speed of the unit, screen customization, options available on the touch that ...

Re: Bow transducer preferences HDS 7 pair

Darren, take a look at the length of the LSS-2 ducer. If you put that ducer on a trolling motor, there will be no room for a 83/200 broadband sonar ducer. If you only want the Structure Scan at the bow, your golden, if you want both sonar types on the bow, you will need to find an LSS-1 ducer which ...

Re: HDS 7 Gen2 Touch - black Structure Scan HD box needed?

Only HDS key pad units need the LSS box. The software needed to run the LSS ducer is in every Touch unit. Most importantly all Touch units have a port on the back of the unit for the ducer to plug into therefore transmitting the information from the ducer directly into the head unit. The black box i...

IMO, it's not just the HDS 7, every HDS unit will have interference with a Fortrex trolling motor. That motor is simply not grounded very well if at all. For this reason I still run an older Maxxum Pro and soon as I find someone to buy this one, I'm going to Motorguide.

Since you are 90% freshwater and only 10% in the salt, go with the 83/200 ducer. The 50 khz is mainly for the denser and deeper salt water but the 83 will work down to 200 feet and deeper in some conditions so it is OK for the salt only 10% of the time.

Since the LMS 480 is a much older model, my guess is that the Navionics card is too big for the unit to read. 10 years ago a 500 MB card was big, now you can't find any smaller than 2 or 4 Gigs. The older units could only read smaller cards that were the standard for that era.
