Since you found a pod of bigger fish, I'd set up some finesse rigs with light light, long rods and stay far away from where you saw them and go back to see if you can get them to go. Make really, really long casts for them.

Those ships throw an enormous under tow/current. Be glad you didn’t get caught in that as you’ll easily end up like the SS Minnow.

You may want to consider leaving the area if you spot one and return later....
