I would weigh your options as to the ability you have to afford those options. If you like the boat you have now, look into rebuilding the XR (cost) verses the cost to re-power. Why would you even want to run a 36v on 24v ? You loose power and can even damage the motor. If adding a 4 battery is a problem, just incorporate the starting battery in and add a as you run battery charger. Pretty sure this will work. What do you think minnkotaman ?

I assume that this pertains to a 4-cycle engine or the gear case on a 2 or 4 cycle as sampling the oil on a 2-cycle there is no oil in the engine as it passes thru the motor and is not retained in the engine. I had the Jen-Su Blade on a 101 MinnKota and it was awesome. Has to be right up to the blade with-in a 1/4 inch to work great !! Plan on getting one for my next boat too !!

If your not using a water separator in your fuel line you SHOUD BE !! Water can get into ANY fuel at ANY station. Personally, I try to only use Chevron Mid Range (when possible) and have never had a problem in either a Mercury or Yamaha motors. I would never run without a water separator tho.
