For the 8" my go-to is the Dobyns 806 H and a curado 300 spooled with 80 lb braid and a short mono leader.

Re: Knots for Braid.
I'm sorry to hear about the punker. :( However, you have to be getting bit to lose one to a fish. Maybe you're on a pattern that will pay in the end. Hang in there, that one will hurt for a while but learning from it will relieve some of the sting. I'm glad you're enjoying the website. It seems like everyone has a different answer to this one but I've been very happy with a blood knot for my connection knot and a Double palomar for my braid to lure connection. Everyone is different but these knots just don't fail me.

Thanks for putting up the Link Ryan, i appreciate it. Its a killer technique, I hope people latch on to it like I have. I'm sure the vast majority of members on this site know exactly who Paul Elias is. However, many may not be aware that Paul is also a trophy bass fisherman and guide. Goals For The New Year **Video**
Well, its almost 2011. For some 2010 was a year of great success, both on and off the water. For others, it was a struggle to say the least. As it applies to fishing, goal setting is one of the keys that successful anglers use to gauge their progress throughout the year. Without goals there is no wa...

When fishing in this part of the country you can't afford to be a one trick pony. If you are, you're going to stay on top of the pile about as long as yesterday's news. I realize that on this forum there are probably a handful of anglers who know the Float and Fly technique better than I do. In fact...

Buzzbomber,
I'm not sure of the exact brand (because we were on his boat). It was just a standard, 1/4 oz flippin' jig with 5/0 hook and crawdad trailer. (not what I'd have chosen but it obviously worked!) Like I said, he had SKILLS.

I use the Dobyns 795 SBMT as well. I also use the 806 for my slightly larger hardbaits. The most important thing to remember is that when fishing baits with big trebles you want the WHOLE rod to flex, not just the tip. This will help to keep the hooks in place. Try to think of a crankbait rod on ste...
