Re: Jumbo shad on the loose!!!

Most people can't tell the difference between a Gizzard shad and a threadfin. I believe the main physical difference is the size. There are many different kinds of herring and most look very similar. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/wild/species/threadfinshad/ http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwil...

Re: Jumbo shad on the loose!!!

Threadfin shad typically top out at 4". They might be gizzard or American shad or another variety of herring. I have heard it is common to catch a larger variety in the 2-4pound range in the Columbia river.

What weight line and leader are you contemplating? I guess you will have to test it out for yourself and make your own judgment. I believe we all agree that a leader is a liability. Re: Leader on braid or no?

In my opinion, no, but to each their own. The low stretch characteristics of the braid will concentrate any shock load to the leader. Most of the time when you set hook the concentrated load will cause the weakest link (knot) to fail. Sometimes the braid will actually shear the leader.

MP, I think you missed my point. I was basically saying that Ranger boats might sell for more then the competition because they have a larger percent of the market and have a better then average reputation. I believe they cost more partially because they have a larger margin on their product.

I disagree. Hypothetically a larger more well known manufacturer could build a better and less expensive boat then a smaller less known company. The larger MFG would buy all materials at a higher volume and a reduced price. The engineering and marketing would be amortized over a larger volume as wel...

Do you drive in over drive around town? I believe in the Fords you can drive in 3 instead of OD or D and the trans will shift up down but not into top gear. This will allow some extra engine braking.
