I dont think you can go wrong either way. I have the 704c in the Champion Series and I absolutely love it. The DX is a fantastic stick and the 784ml is probably the best open water jig rod ever built. If you are going to be fishing deep I would go the 784

I see them for sale every once in a while on various websites but your best bet is probably going to be ebay......just be prepared to pay a pretty penny for it....they dont go cheap

That is correct. They are the same rod with the exception being the 795 SBMT has a shorter handle than the 795 ML.
I have a few of the 795 ML's and have not found the handle length to be an issue when working big topwater baits and I like the leverage I get out of the longer handle when casting.

Everybody has their preference's, Mine for all of the baits you mentioned as well as many other's such as Mission Fish and Ospreys is the Dobyns 795ml paired with a Curado 300

As far as reels to pair with this rod you cant go wrong with a Curado 300 or a Calcutta 300 TE.

Those Core 50's make a fantastic pairing with the 701's & 702's. I wouldnt mind having three or four myself :lol: I've Got the DX 701 with a Curado e reel for dropshotting mostly & I occasionaly darthead with it. If you dont like the faster ratio of the e7 go for the e5. Still makes a nice c...

I like the Ganns draggin' jig in the 1/4 & 3/8 and the Ganns Hummer jig in 3/8 sizes for fishing shallow water. The Draggin' jig has a light wire Gami and the Hummer jig has a heavier wire Gami round bend.

Like tarpon said....Hold your rod tip with a little higher attitude and reel just fast enough to hear the "clack" much faster than that and the bait will go subsurface.

Tear out what is left of your old tail. Then take a pair of needle nose and grab the pins from the inside of the slot that the tail was in and carefully push them sideways to the outside of the bait. put the new big hammer tail where you want it and then push the pins back through it. I use both the gen 1 and gen 2 795ml for osprey's and the like. never had any problems with them and I think they are by far the best rods I've ever used for baits of that size

The 866 is an awesome swimbait stick. I've got mine set up with a Calcutta 400b and 25# cxx and could'nt be happier. as far as baits go 185vsfrog pretty much hit the nail on the head more often than not a hud of some sort is what I've got tied to my 866.
