My jig rig is as follows Dobyns Champion 704c ( I like the backbone of a 4 power ) Shimano Curado e7 ( fast reel for getting the bait back to re-present or keep up with one running straight back at me ) 12# Inviz-x ( sensitive, clear, not a lot of stretch ) The Dobyns 744c is a GREAT rod as is the D...

I dont think you can go wrong either way. I have the 704c in the Champion Series and I absolutely love it. The DX is a fantastic stick and the 784ml is probably the best open water jig rod ever built. If you are going to be fishing deep I would go the 784

That is correct. They are the same rod with the exception being the 795 SBMT has a shorter handle than the 795 ML.
I have a few of the 795 ML's and have not found the handle length to be an issue when working big topwater baits and I like the leverage I get out of the longer handle when casting.

Re: swimbait top hook vs. stinger treble
I usually prefer a treble hook but that depends on the bait. If youre talking about baits like the Hudd I rig my 12's & 16's the same way I do the 5's and 0's. On the 12 & 16 I cut the jig hook out of the top of the bait and run a treble back into the dorsal fin from the line tie and sometim...

Tear out what is left of your old tail. Either a Yum or Zoom split tail or a paddle tail bait of some sort. Color and type depends on the conditions I'm throwing it in, Time of day or night and the color of the bait I'm throwing it on.
