TPWD barotrauma study video
As a refresher for anglers targeting deep caught fish or have caught a fish that needs it, I urge everyone to watch the TPWD video on barotrauma and how to alleviate it properly. Those that think they know what they are doing and those that have never done it, there is good info that should help dec...

Re: Where are the largemounth bass??
In our brief electrofishing effort this spring @ McClure, half of the bass I saw were LMB. Water fluctuations at most reservoirs are the mechanism that allow for the spotted bass to flourish. They fill the niche within waters that are not ideal for the other black bass species. They are simply bette...

Re: Cool video: How to fizz a bass
The important thing to remember when deflating a bass is NOT TO LET ALL OF THE AIR OUT. I see this WAY too often, yes the fish are no longer floating, but they have sunk to the bottom out of site. You only need to let enough air out to eliminate positive buoyancy. This means tablespoons of air.

Some grow them back, some do not. As far as I can tell none of the fish with clipped fins are in reduced condition when compared to non-clipped fins. I've seen un-clipped fish that were without one or both pelvic fins, this last tournament had a fish without a right pelvic fin. ( I've only been cutt...

I did'nt even bother clipping the fin....just threw in the tank. That fish is not long for this world. Pretty sad that fish could not be culled....a normal pre-spawn DVL 15.5 inch fish would have added another pound.

Ray,
I only see 1 or 2 small SMB if I am lucky. The lack of angler caught smaller sized SMB only confirms what I am seeing (or not) in the E-fish surveys.

When deflating the bass DO NOT let all of the air out as I have witnessed in the past. Let out enough air as so the fish is not positively buoyant & can regain it's equilibrium. If all the air is let out the fish will sink & have to refill its gas bladder....if it can.
