Re: Casitas lake boat closure dates
The DFW has a duty to survey lake Casitas regardless of squabbles with the crazy Ojai water board members. Casitas isn't a Private lake it’s a Public lake! Casitas was a world class bass fishery and deserves to be operated as such. This year 2023 is the lowest point in bass catch per man hour since ...

Re: Casitas lake boat closure dates
There are some signs of bass life with a few caught the last ABA tournament. What Casitas needs is a electro shock study by the DFW and everyone interested should demand a population survey. Maybe a Western Bass petition on this site could get the ball rolling? Casitas was my favorite lake since it ...

OB trim on today’s OB’s don’t help much with a jack plate etc. Don’t wear lace up shoes or boots in a boat, can’t swim with them on. You also need high speed PFD with collar not Suspenders to keep your head above water if you are under power when falling out of the boat. PFD will help you keep afloa...

Be careful with the amount ice you add. Drop the temps 10 degrees quickly can kill bass. Over the counter 3% hydrogen peroxide 1/2 cup to 15 gallons is safe and creates life saving DO. Night the green vegetation that produces DO during day light does the opposite in the dark and consumes DO, lowerin...

Re: striper rod for the bay
Apparently the 12-15 lb mono line is being over looked, you simply can’t cast mono line over .010D using standard bass size spinning reels. You need a 4000 size reel and that puts you into swimbait type rods or....inshore spinning M or MF spinning rods. 765 SF would solve this.

Re: striper rod for the bay
12-15 lb mono/FC will require a larger size 4000 spinning reel, the rod should be balanced for a larger heavier reel imo. If you go with braid the 3000 bass reel size works along with bass spinning rods.

Cooch had Iovino make him a similar color darker green back. Bass anglers tend to use hooks with wire the size used on frog hooks and strong enough for 300 lb tuna. The larger the hook wire the more force needed to penetrate passed the hook barb. Once a hook has penetrated passed the barb to pulling...

Let the angler control the bass before trying to net it, then lead the bass into the net and lift. Multiple treble hook lures require a net most of the time to reduce injury....to you!

Dr LORAN Hill introduced the Color C Lector and later added the PH probe. I recall thinking the PH level in our local lakes would be a factor and tested the water. Today it’s more difficult to define what a swimbait is and what the OP is referring to. The tail question indicates a soft swimbait but not the size ( length & weight) so we guess. The earliest soft swimbaits were salt lures like Worm Kings from 4”anchovy to 16” trout. Ken Huddleston patent on t...

Good questions that time on the water will answer. 1. Bass don’t know their size compared to any prey size, it’s a trail and error process. 2. Bigger lures displace more water that a bass can feel via the lateral line sensors and may come to check out the lure from a greater distance. If the lure tr...

Can’t blame everything on C & R as it was at it’s height during the 90’s. What is the problem is prey to predator ratio, bass can’t achieve exceptional growth eating Threadfin Shad as a primary food source, they need high protein crayfish a good mix of soft Ray fish. Castiac is very similar with...

Summer it’s all about the right biat, the right time and location.
Threadfin Shad bite coincides with the Shad spawn. About a 1 week window, it’s on if you are there. That is over by now.
Think Bass Trix Shad Bait fry and 3”-4” Shad reapers.

Casitas opened in 1958. FLMB introduced in the early 70’s or 50 years ago now.
