Hey Richard. I have one of the Berkley ones that fell apart. You can have it for free! Seriously get a better one, they're garbage. I'm just going to use my boga for now on. Indestructable. Let's fish sometime soon. Mike

Out today prefishing for HBC and at the fourth spot I drop the motor in and nothing. Switched the on/off button on the water, not it so took it home (after calling to bow out of the HBC). Put the voltmeter and it showed that power was getting to the unit so it's not a circuit breaker and batteries a...

Re: Safari or Metal Machette for my Motorguide?
Lugnut, the bad things about the metal prop is that when it you buzz the rocks with it it doesn't give and could bend the armature shaft which will most likely compromise the seal when it turns letting water into the lower unit. It's all bad from there obviously. I found this out the hard way.

On board charger question
I have some suspicions about one of the banks on my 3 bank charger. Is there a simple way I can test whether or not it is working properly? When I put a separate charger on this battery it only shows 10% in the testing mode even after a long 2amp charge. It's a 36 volt system. Mike

Today on Clearlake, my MG 109 went nuts. Basically while in momentary on it would begin running on its own and wide open even though the dial was set at low. The only way I could run it was to leave it in the constant on position and adjust the speed but still at times it would take on a mind of it'...

Don't launch at Redbud. That entire arm is covered with algae. Rattlesnake arm is turning green also but ok to launch. Go to limit out and launch at Clearlake Oaks or Lucerne if the wind is up.

As long as the wind stays down you should be able to fish just about anywhere a big boat would especially if you stayed around marinas and withing 5mph zones. If you want to try the Delta, the sloughs on 8 Mile Rd would be an option namely Bishop Cut/Disappointment around Paradise Pt. Marina and Hon...

First, call the Summit Ranger Station and make sure the trails you plan to use are passible. May still be covered with snow in a couple of weeks. As far as what works on ultra light gear, small spinners and spoons to start with but I always strongly suggest flies. Dragging small woolybuggers behind ...

Tons of little fish for me on Saturday with a few keepers here and there. Would be fun for kids and I'm sure it will pick up as the full moon wanes. There was a tournament out there Saturday and other than the top three teams, it appeared that everyone struggled for good fish.

Somedays the fish just don't commit to that bait. They bump it, slap it, tail grab it, just don't EAT IT. Catch them in the right mood and they inhale it everytime, so it's not necessarily something you're doing or not doing. Great bait this time of year so keep throwing it.

If you're talking about the one near the boundary of Yosemite NP it's a trout lake and one that I used to flyfish with alot of success both from a float tube and from the shore. You'll also need to be insured or bonded and if you plan on guiding in the Delta you'll need a license from the Coast Guard commonly referred to as a 6 pack or OUPV. There's alot of sources. Wheel weights from tire shops work but they're dirty and not pure lead and a little hard. Old sinkers especially big ones are good. I was given some kind of flashing that is used in concrete forms(i think) that has worked really nicely. Just start asking around and you'll en...

I use a 7'2" Medium Crucial dropshot rod. I like the extra length because I can cast the rig a long ways which helps keep me off of the bank and the fish I am casting to. I think the length helps with hookups when they eat it a good distance from the boat.

Re: Jig Hooks
For a 90' hook they have a Gamakatsu 2894 that has a wide gap. Nice looking hook.
Re: Jig Hooks
If you have the mold that accepts a 60 degree hook the Gamakatsu EWG 2014 is probably what you are looking for. If your mold only accepts 90' hooks you might be limited although going up a size or two will give you a bigger gap.
Re: Jig Hooks
Which mold do you have? Barlow's Tackle has hook recommendations for all of the Do-it molds as well as pictures of the hooks themselves.

Is a Powell 735 stout enough to handle a Shellcracker specifically on the Delta firing the bait into tight pockets and cover as opposed to just lobbing it out into open water? I used a flipping stick for this last year and would rather have something a little shorter for accuracy. Thanks, Mike
