Re: Lipless cranks
I agree with you, Chris. Yozuri 3D vibe, or the larger model, cast like a dream (even into the wind), run as fast as you want to crank them without rolling, cost less than half the price of Lucky Craft, and, best of all, THEY CATCH FISH! I use the 3/8oz in ghost shad to pull under shad balls, ...

One mans fish is another mans fowl
The rains last winter washed a lot of nutrients into our local So.Cal. lakes, and we have lots of green water now. What a change from the last few years, when you could see 20'+ down at Casitas. The baitfish had a super spawn this year, with shad and silversides eveywhere, and tons of bass fry. The ...

There are all kinds of legal issues that have to be dealt with. If the tournament makes the name publicly known, they open themselves up to lawsuits, right or wrong. And they will never get insurance again, so they're dead, right or wrong. At some point people will either have to accept that it was ...

Aluminum vs. Fiberglass
I have a 2004 Tracker 175, with a 50 merc. 4 stroke. My partner has a 2005 Ranger 175 with a 115 Optimax. Everything Mac said is true. Plus an aluminum boat is easier to tow. Lighter. I use 1/2 the gas at WOT than my partner's 115, but I ROCK AND ROLL in skier swells. Since I fish So.Cal. lakes like...

Re: 6 lb. line and no weight
I agree about Quantum reels, although I would go with the 30 size to keep line twist down. To eliminate line twist altogether, use Stren Super Braid in 10+- test. Tie a lighter flouro leader on with an Albright knot, and it will cast with no problems, and not twist. I would recommend looking at Falc...

Ocean Charter
I need some help. One of the families I do work for, who live in Malibu, are looking for a charter boat for this Friday thru Sunday. They will be a party of six max., with two small kids. They want to seriously fish. If they like the boat/captain they will probably set up a regular deal, including t...
Thanks, Ron
Oh, well, maybe the bass will eat the striper fry before they get too big. Fingers crossed.
Silversides
I went online and found the fish I snagged. It was a silverside. I don't know what DL netted, but this is the fish I saw in huge balls all over Castaic Saturday. What a relief! I had visions of a stiper tsunami in the coming years. I'll have to find a lime green marker to color one side of my blades...

Re: Poll Question, Re. Educated Thumb
I finds it's much more difficult to thumb control braid, if the tension knob is backed off, so I keep it adjusted so the lure just moves when I push down the thumb bar, unless I'm pitching. Maybe it's the smaller diameter, I don't know.

I could just hear the jokes when I was typing, but, what the hay? If you can't take a little ribbing (no joke intended), you're taking yourself and life just a little too serious.
Re: Sun Line
I've been using 12lb and 10lb Sniper for two years now, and I don't have anything bad to say about Sniper. It is more limp than the Stren and Bass Pro flouros I've tried, and it doesn't fray like the Vanish I tried. I do have to have the spool tension set so the lure just barely moves down when I pu...

I was told to color the braid in alternating 1-2" sections, because bass don't see a broken line as something artificial. Have you heard anything about that? Does all black work? I have caught fish on new green braid, faded green braid, alternate black/green braid. All I've really noticed is th...
Thanks, Ron.
Funny you should mention eating stipers. Bo Viescas and I ran into Aaron Martens' brother at Pyramid on Friday, and he was trying to give away some stripers he'd caught, because he didn't want to clean them. He offered them to us, but we didn't want to clean them, either.

Striper question
I'm from So. Cal. and I have a striper question. I fish for largemouth at Castaic and Pyramid a lot, both lakes with stripers. On Friday at Pyramid, and then again Saturday at Castaic, there were huge balls of striper fry everywhere. I've never seen striper fry balls like that at those lakes, or any...
Ron C.
Have you ever seen striper fry like that at Castaic? I saw them Friday at Pyramid, too. Maybe we'll have to have striper eradication tournaments, catch and kill. Take a seagull to lunch day. Something.
Yikes!
I knew you'd know. Is that freaky or what? Maybe I should net as many as I can, and feed them to the birds, although I'd probably be breaking some law. I was actually thinking they were just some kind of minnow, like a mosquito fish, and that I might take a few home for my kids' aquarium. Not! They'...
Ron C
Ron, I found schools of small, minnow-like baitfish at Castaic yesterday. They are about two inches long, have a slightly greenish cast from the top, and have a black line running down their sides from head to tail. They are really thin, and they were everywhere.
Do you know what they're called?

I heard the tournament is in jeopardy because Fish and Game
is considering protected status for the Snag Proof Frog. They may have to drain the delta to protect the frogs from the fish.

Brian, I agree with you about it being a business
From their point of view, they want to make their product attractive to as many as possible. If I were them, I might do the same. I'm curious, though, how they would be good for the sport from a local guy's point of view. If ESPN is making it harder to get to the big show, and more expensive to fish...

Non-boater fee
sTony, Our club has a specified non-boater fee posted before each tourney. It varies from lake to lake, depending on launch ramp charges and distance, but it takes all the pressure off the boater/non-boater relationship up front. I might be up for a turkey shoot. Question in my mind, living near LAX, is which day, what hours, and can we do an overnighter? A four hour drive each way is brutal, especially going through Santa Barbara.

Am I right to assume that 4stoke engines can run on the same stuff car engines run on, since the oil isn't combined with the gas?
