It sounds like you have the two units connected via an Ethernet cable.

I don't have an Elite model to check this setting but on the HDS models there is a "Look Ahead" choice. This puts the cursor at the bottom of the screen. See if you can find that choice and see if that helps. The Elite models don't have as much customization so that may not be a choice.

Because the Point 1 GPS antenna has a magnetic heading sensor in it, it is a good idea to calibrate the antenna. There are some good videos on You Tube demonstrating how to do this. Just do the search and calibrate your Point 1 for optimal performance and accuracy.

The Elite models are not designed to be networked together. The HDS units are able to be networked. This explains the difference in the price points in each product line.

The transducer is picking up the electric motor "noise" when you actuate the motor. The Minn Kota more than likely has a ground wire that is missing or has come loose. Having a good ground on the trolling motor will reduce the "noise" that the transducer picks up.

A Gen 1 units can not run the Gen 2 software. There is different hardware inside the units that prohibit that from working.

You can plug a Broadband Sonar transducer into the back of the Gen 3 unit and the Structure Scan transducer into the back of the same unit. Two different types of sonar but two transducers plugged into the same unit.

You will need to find a map card from that time. The size of SD cards has grown and the old units were designed to read cards the normal size of that era.

My guess is the cards of the day then were 512 MB and the cards of today are 2 gig. The old units can't read a card that big.
