I have a Tracker 175 with a trim switch, but no jack plate. Would trimming up help in rough water. I don't try to motor wide open anyway if it's rough, but having the front higher makes sense, even if it makes it harder to see.

Re: 911-Castaic Bass Club Challenge results
Terry,
A big thanks to the 911 guys, both for putting it on, and for not giving us all tickets when we won. :O)
Seriously, it was a really fun format, and they were a great group of guys. If it is announced a little earlier next year, I'm sure more clubs would compete. It is a great format.

I tow my Tracker with an F150, so I am not an expert on diesels, but several of my friends, roofers and concrete contractors, drive diesel dualies. The roofer has a Ford diesel, 350,000 miles without any motor problems, just bought another for his company, kept the old one. The concrete guy has a Do...

Re: If this happens its all bad for Anglers
HH, I think it's kind of more a short term-long term deal. If the dam is "unsafe" and they're going to spend X number of dollars to fix it, then maybe it does make sense to spend enough to put in a newer, safer dam with more capacity. That would make the people below the dam safer, and the...

The worst part is that ESPN has take Jerry McKinnis away from us. I watched his show with my first two boys for years back in the seventies. When McKinnis first went with BASS, and had the "telestrater" and in-boat conversations with the guys who were fishing, it was interesting to me. But...

ESPN isn't interested in who buys boats, motors, or trucks. It wants a platform to sell toilet paper, deodorant, life insurance, raisin bran, whatever brings in the most commercial revenue. Bass fishing is just the hook, the lure, the bait. They don't care about growing the sport, just the ratings. ...

I have an '04 Tracker 175, and I upgraded to a 24 volt motor, the MG 82. Best thing I ever did. Aluminum boats are sails in the wind, and being able to hold in wind and ski wakes for a whole day is not possible with the 12 volt motors. The larger the motor, the faster the drain on the battery. That'...

Re: horny toad hook size
Try a Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG light wire worm hook. The lighter wire hook lets you retrieve a little slower, but it's plenty strong and big enough to get a good hookset.
A drop of fishing glue on the head or bend will keep the toad on the hook, even when you drag it through trash.

Re: Best knot for joining two lines
tn,
I had the knot slip when I only used six wraps of braid around the flouro. With twelve, I have cut my hand testing the knot, but never had it fail on the water. I'm tying either 14lb braid to 10lb flouro, or 30lb braid to 12lb flouro. Maybe different size lines act differently.

Re: Best knot for joining two lines
Try the Albright knot. It goes through the guides like it's not there. And it's strong. Make a 2" loop in the flouro, thread the braid through the loop and hold it with the thumb and finger that are holding the loop, wrap back down toware the loop 12 times, and thread the braid back through the...

When I miss a lot of fish with the horny toad, they usually pull it down and bite off the legs. That tells me they're smaller fish. Big fish suck it in.

Re: How to Drop-Shot??
You can eliminate line twist by using braid as a main line, and then tying on a flouro leader. I use an Albright knot, which seems to go through the guides better than back to back uni knots or a blood knot. I usually tie on a 6-8' leader, and that lasts me for a while, even with retying. I use 14bl...
