unplug the foot pedal from the motor and take it to the sink and give it a good flushing. you might have a twig or something in it so that it wont make a contact. these foot pedals are water proof. if that doesn't take care of your problem i can give you some other things to pin point your problem. ...

i'd go the fortrexx all the way. it's rock solid and quite.
none of the play at the pivot points that the maxxum
gets over time. well worth the price diff.

you didn't say if it had been working? take the cap off the upper part of the motor and make sure the connector is tight. it's not hard to find, a big metal connector. look for any pinches on the cable that run to you transducer. if you can't find any the sonar unit will have to be replaced. in all ...

i hate to bust your bubble, but the break for Minnkota's on the
mounts is 48 inches. shortening the shaft makes the motor sit higher
on the mount. the 52" mount wont work on a shorter shaft.
I'd wait for 1 that will fit.

it's best if you put a 1X2 in between the upper and lower arm. it's an over center lock and if it snaps down you will loose a finger. remove the lower arm first then lay the motor down the 2 bolts are 9/16, you should not have to beat out any of the bolts. this being an older motor you might have to...

the cost of the armature is $68.40 and you will need the 2 thru bolt seals, the others are compression seals and don't normally need changing. be sure and use vaseline on ALL of them. it will water proof the seals and come off in 10 years the same way it went on. after 28 year i've found that's the ...

sounds like you have a dead spot on the armature.
about 4 or 5 years ago Minnkota put out some armatures
that would fail by mistake. so far they have been
covering them under warranty. they pay for
the parts you cover the labor. It takes about 20 minutes.

thanks for all the kind words guys. but this sounds like he has a couple of problems. my first guess is that he has bad cell in 1 of the batteries.
