Marty,
I use the Xtools clamping tags, so I don't need to make a hole, or go through the gill opening. I think this guy's clips were too small to go through the gill opening. I like the Xtool clips and scale. It just took me a long time to learn how to use it. My kids wouldn't help!

My friend Bo Viescas got me started bass fishing, and taught me most of what I know. He was a hard *** with me, and never let me slide with being sloppy or lazy. "Be ready" he'd yell if I seemed to slack off or lose concentration. "Stand up, or you'll miss the strike". He was tou...

If memory serves, my last two trucks didn't have a specific breakin routine required. '01 Ford, '03 Ford. They've had warrantee work, and never a mention of how they were broken in.

That makes too much sense. Especially when you consider that both sculpins and crawdads like rock. I could have been mistaking a sculpin pattern for a crawdad pattern all this time!
I wonder what the state record is for sculpin? Yours looks awfully big. Did you weigh it?

Bill, I met Jimmy Reese at the Bass A Thon, and talked to him about the 987C SI. He is sold on it. He fishes where you fish, and said it's the way to go. He actually paid to have one put on his boat when he went back east, and he said his new boat is going to have two, with a 787 on the bow. When he...

Re: New toy choice
I'd pick the 987C SI, because the lakes I fish are mostly deep reservoir lakes, and structure fishing is the key there. From what I've seen of the side scan unit, it looks fantastic. And the reviews I've gotten from people who use it are equally fantastic. And I'd use it every time out. I don't know...

Kelly, Some of us don't know enough about stuff to chip in. I use the spider jig with either a football or standup head a lot, because of the rocks at the lakes I fish. I usually use regular skirted jigs with trailers when I'm fishing brush and wood. Shallow. I think I have less snags, and lose less...

Broken crankbait bills
I now have three of my favorite deep diving cranks with broken bills. Three different manuf. All broke across where the line tie comes out of the bill.
Can these be salvaged, like in putting a new bill in, or making them into a wake bait? Has anyone done that?
Or am I just being too cheap?

Why would you want an aluminum trailer? To get aluminum that is as tough as steel costs a fortune. Let the boat manuf. put the money into the boat, motor, and electronics, and just take good care of the painted steel trailer. If you really want something along those lines, get a galvanized trailer. ...

I lie both the bouy-type retriever and the extension pole, both from BPS.
If you go with the bouy-type, be sure to put the metal loops in a vise and close them enough that your line won't keep popping free.
