Re: 225 Opti bondo job?
Get a second opinion. Bondo on the lower unit doesn't necessarily mean a substandard repair. Adequate cooling is the only thing I would really be worried about if it has been good to you! Bondo is the easiest way to cover up cosmetic damage and that may have been all that there was. Cosmetic damage.

Rod, you don't have to buy cause I'm not selling. Look at what Kevin VanDam uses when ripping with flourocarbon. Try it yourself. Put flourocarbon on your tiny reel and see what happens. How comfortable you are holding the rod is an issue. However, the issues I mentioned are more important to me. It...

Line comes off of the spool easier for longer casts. Less line twist. 2000/2500 size is not that big IMO.

Re: Spinning reel questions...
Some funny stuff! I have fished with Stella's (450.00 to 600.00) Shimano makes excellent spinning reels. Diawa's are superior in this price range. The low end Shimano's aren't what they used to be. It is all about the drag system in a spinning reel not BB count but if you haven't tried the one speci...

I hope you are feeling the support of the community we are praying for those effected by this tragedy. Maybe we could organize a tournament at Pine Flat to help raise funds and celebrate the lives of the fallen LEO.

Ryan I switched over to the Diawa Tierra for all my spinning stuff at that price point and haven't looked back. You can try out one of mine if you like and see how you like it. I own lots of Shimano just can't get a better reel for the money than the Tierra IMO. Drag is really good!

Max will spoil you. After fishing Max if you try to switch to other lines (6-8 lb) you will break off fish. I have tried all the expensive flouro lines and keep going back to Max for finesse fishing. It is tough stuff.

Problem is they don't take reservations so you better get there early in the week. I don't know if they changed this policy or will take reservations for that week but it could be an issue. When I fished a TOC we stayed there and they refused to guarantee availability.

I like the way it falls straight and level. Looks good twitching, slow and steady, all movements really. I couldn't pay that for a bait but I think the slow wide action would work well on the big girls.

Powell 734 is a excellent and versatile rod for everything you mentioned and then some. I know many people who own several inc myself. Powell doesn't give me anything to say this and I also own St Croix, Loomis, Dobyns, Lamiglass, Kistler, and Okuma. I haven't tried the Phenix so I can't comment.
