Your Taurus is too light, underpowered, and has front wheel drive.
Won't do the job. We've all seen small pickups trying to pull boat out and spinning their wheels.
Don't try it unless you have someone with a real tow vehicle handy to help pull out both your boat and your car.

Re: bassbones is that your truck in the photo section?
Brake size is important when you're towing. The newer anti lock brakes will hold better, but smaller brakes tend to overheat and warp the rotors. You start to feel a small shudder when you've been in traffic for a while. Be sure to get a towing package with bigger brakes, rated for more than your bo...
Re: SPOONS
TonyL, I'm not a spoon expert, but this is what I do. I try to find a concentration of baitfish, and then find some structure next to them. I usually drop my spoon down to the depth of the bottom of the baitfish on that structure, so it is on the bottom. If there is a school in 30-40', I look for a ...

It stopped my back spasms on the drive home, and it's much easier for me to keep my balance in wakes, an issue with my aluminum boat. I have it spaced up 1 1/2" above the bottom of my Flatfoot recess, so it is slightly higher than the deck level. It really makes fishing all day easier. I stand ...

I have three Extreme reels, from 2002, and half a dozen rods. No rod problems, the power hump is great on the rods, lots of guides for good action, durable. Other than getting salt water on the sleeve bearing (replacement bearing was easily obtained through BPS) on one reel when I fished calicos off...

Re: Casting
Yeah, that can be tough. My daughter has a treeing Walker coon hound named Charlie, and he thinks anything I cast is a bird, to be pounced on and killed. Makes throwing in the back yard kind of difficult. Of course, wrestling a lure back from him would probably get me in great shape for a world reco...

Good to hear, John. Funny how we take our health for granted until we have a problem. I guess it's the old "If it ain't broke" deal, but, as we get older, staying healthy is almost a full time job.
Personally, I vote for just staying young. It's a lot less work.

Re: If you want a near guaranteed 10 lb. fish
I was actually talking about how much the lure hangs below the tip before you cast, how much line you "let down". That's what I've always called it. Some rods load better with more let down, some less, depending on the weight of the lure. You might also want to work on a side arm cast. The...

Re: clear coat for crankbaits ??
Many years ago, I played with a BBQ rotiserrie motor for turning rods slowly after I coated the wraps. It worked, because it was really slow, but it was a pain to rig. And that was two houses ago, and it got lost somewhere between there and here. But it did work for rods. I don't think I'd invest th...

Re: clear coat for crankbaits ??
Corey,
I found the 5 minute epoxy yellows right away. The slower (15 or 30 min.) seem to be more clear.
I just ordered some vinyl clear coat. I figure it will work, short term, when I need it. Long term, I will use 30 minute epoxy, and turn it by hand (what a pain).

Re: If you want a near guaranteed 10 lb. fish
Don't over throw, play with the amount of let down for each lure, warm up first thing in the launch area before you go to your first spot to make sure you're comfortable with your setup, and be sure that you've made any adjustments you need to before your first money cast.

Screw the traps to a larger piece of plywood as both a weight so they don't crawl off, and to keep the blood spread to a minimum.

Re: clear coat for crankbaits ??
J, I don't think one coat of clear will change a bait's action, but, if it's balsa, absorbing water will. And a crack in a plastic lure will let water in. So having a clear coat that's durable, clear, and easy to apply would be great. I've used two part epoxy, and super glue, but they don't do the j...
