Re: As summer winds down, did high gas prices keep you home?

I fished this more year than any year since I was in high school. The gas prices kept me going a few times in the boat, but on those occasions I would take out my kick boat or do some pond fishing.

I went out Saturday afternoon form 12:30 to 6:30. No big fish, bigest about 2.5, but I caught over 20 keeper sized fish all on top water baits. I fished the south Delta.

There is a guy who posts on bass boat central who has an Allison with a 150 OPTI on the back and he gets great gas milage with good top end as well (68 72MPH).

Allis are great for gas consumption because they are so light

For your three year old try splitshotting some live crickets, or under a bobber. I did this with a couple of kids in June and we knocked the snot out of small bass and bluegill. Fish near any of the many docks, it was a blast.

I pull a 16 foot glass boat with my 4 cylinder Subaru, so a small glass boat is one way of going. You can also look for a older truck to use just as a pull vehicle. I looked into buing an older truck for just that purpose and they can be found for around $1500. Just something else to think about

I would nto go any smaller than a 90HP. It is not just an issue of speed but also the right ammount of power to get a boat like that up on plane, and running efficently. An underpowered boat will eat gas, porpose, throw a huge wake and stress the motor. Keep in mind for a used 90HP motor you are loo...

They are the same boat, just different names. My suggestion would to buy a Creek Company. They have good boats and GREAT coustomer service. I have an ODC 816 and I love it. The only other suggestion i have is get a boat with an aluminum frame, the extra weight of the boat makes a difference.
