Our annual night event was again held on Newman Lake. The tournament hours were 7pm to 7am, making it a marathon event and allowing anglers to fish the evening, night and morning bite. The fishing was good with nice largemouth and smallmouth brought to the scales. This was also the first event with the new side pot for big bass of both species, as voted on by the members at the last meeting. This will apply for lakes with both species for all events going forward.
Taking first for the second month in a row was Nik Autrey. He weighed in a limit weighing 18.11lbs and had the big bass of the tournament at 4.85lbs. He won $285 for first plus an extra $95 for big largemouth. He did most of his damage by fishing a spinnerbait.
Second place was Tyler Brinks with a limit weighing 15.51lbs, which included a 4.81lb largemouth. He caught three keepers before dark by fishing jigs and drop-shot and then caught his better fish in the morning hours fishing a drop-shot around rocks and weedlines. He won $171 for his finish.
Third place was Dan Rice with a solid limit weighing 14.84lbs. He had two four pound class largemouth that he caught with a Strike King Rage Blade and KVD 1.5 squarebill. He also caught fish on a Strike King KVD Sexy Frog. Most of his fish came in the evening and then early morning starting at 3am. He won $114 for his finish.
Broc Allen won the smallmouth side pot and $65 for his 3.43lb smallmouth he caught on a spinnerbait fishing around rocks at night.
