Strike detection

Post by WRB »

Fishing with artificial lures strike detection is extremely important when using lures you can’t see. For me it took years to develop the skills needed to determine when a bass engulfed my my jig or bottom contact soft plastics. It’s the one skill that separates a good bass angler from others.
We select hooks, line, rods and reels to use as a system to help detect strikes. We spend decades honing these skills to a art form. I designed jigs and used the sharpest strong smaller diameter hooks available for ease of hook setting after detecting a blind strike. Very proud of my personal accomplishments catching giant bass on jigs. Making long casts using smaller diameter lines and state of the art hooks, rods, line and custom rods specifically design to perform my goals.
Today FFS/Live Scope changes blind strike detection to visual detection similar to bed fishing. The Scope angler doesn’t feel or detect the strike they see it!
Would I use this technology?.....of course I used every sonar technology available over the past 5 decades. I am too old now to take advantage of this technology opening up the last frontier.

As a dedicated cranker I’ve learned that generally speaking the harder the bite the smaller the fish. Those subtle, sort of mushy bites usually yield the bigger fish.

Wintertime Nov through Feb. 1/8oz 1/4oz 3/8oz. Jigs on either Bucktail or Silicone on 4,6,8 maxima line using MH spinning outfits in 30 to 60 feet of water. There nothing better than catching big bass on light line and finesse jigs. :D
