The mission fish look to be a popular choice. Trout color is also a delta favorite. I think the weedless design of the mission fish lends it self to fishing in the delta weeds. Best of luck!

My suggestion would be to get some Black Dog baits weedslingers, mission fish, a Shell cracker, a go 2 minnow, and a 7" baby bass M.S. slammer. That is for starters. When you are ready to expand your arsenal I would get some Hudd's, a slow sink BBZ, tripple trout, mattlures ultimate bluegill, and a baby bass wake bait junior.

Once you start throwing swimbaits you will never be able to break the addiction

If your limited in funds, my suggested is to purchase a shellcracker (Floater) a 316 Wakebait Jr., these are wakebaits. best too use them during and after the spawn.

Before the spawn like know. Weed slinger, mission fish (Or generic), Bass Magic (Tweaked) also in generic. Also a BBZ-1 sinker that you can cover some depth with.

For shallow, shallow fish that are up and are on flats my suggestion would be the Go-2 bait by Black Dog, the AC plug 7" once it hits the stores by Alan Cole (The Original designer). MSslammer is another company that is on top of the list for a must have on the Delta, buy in 7" models Their are other companies out there but the longivate of there bait is nil.

Recommended companies to look at for the Delta is Black dog baits, 316 lure co, MSslammer. All the just named companies are Hardbaits. Soft plastic's, go with bass magic or in generic form. Recommended to tweak the soft plastics "Think outside of the box".

Good Luck, If you become a swimbait guru and work and define each hard or soft bait you purchase and understand their unique charteristic in depth and speed, you should beable to accomplish your goals 10 fold.

Like a jig, theirs ten ways in presenting it. Same holds true with swimbaits, just pay attention to the bait in what its doing. The presentation is one of the keys. You may have to do some change up's to some of the mentioned baits, but the fish will let you know with a kabuuuuuoooch or just take the rod right out of your hands.

Good Luck

I've done well out there on a baitsmith 6" and this year I'll throw the bluegill as well, the mission fish, the 7" slammer, the Wake Jr., and a handful of others.

One thing I've learned Larry over the last two years, you really don't need the high dollar baits here! There's a bigger key in choosing the right swimbait for the conditions. There are so many options to choose from, it's mind boggling.

You can pick just about any one of the brands that make a plastic paddle tale bait, like the Big Hammer, Fish Trap or Yamamoto, which are all three tossed on an exposed lead head jig, or The Black Dog Weed Slinger, Mission Fish, Bastrix baits which have the embedded weight and big hook, and go out on this River and toss em in either all white or silver w/black back, and catch the snot outa these river bass through May. Then when post spawn hits, go for the surface swimbaits like the Punker, MS Slammer, 3:16 Wakes, AC Plugs, Shell Crackers and such, then fish these all summer long.

This bite is just around the corner. We need a little more warming, the water ta clear, and the fish ta start staging in the grass beds and tulles for any of these to work well! When that happens, fling and swing baby!

Hi lcates,
I bought a FLW Magazine last year and on the cover was Jimmy Reese on the Delta with a 5 lber and hanging out of its mouth was a 3:16 Mission fish, is was such a good photo I hung it in my garage to remind me of what swim bait to use there:)

White 316 mission fish, white 316 rising son (not a bait you here about), 316 wake jr., ms slammer. Armed with those baits you can cover all situations.
