Team Frazier and Doring hammer a win with the first Yak a Bass team event at Folsom

It seems when Yak a Bass has a tournament at Lake Folsom the weather is a huge factor. The weather was nice early in the day but sure enough the wind blew and the rain poured the rest of the day. It’s a common occurrence; one might say about the wind and weather at Folsom in January and February. Rumor says some anglers decided it was best to walk their vessel back to the ramp along the shoreline for their safety. Meanwhile, the fishing was tough for some but great for another angler. Yak a Bass decided to start a team circuit to mix things up by starting one of the first team series on the West Coast. It looks like this circuit series will be something most will be fishing due to its competitive nature.

Once the tournament was over and fish were submitted to the leader board, the team of Reed Frazier and Nick Doring (team Quality Control) hammer out a victory with a massive 92.75”. While both anglers brought fish to the scales Reed Frazier was the dominating team member that secured their victory, he alone brought in 92.75” roughly an 18-pound limit.

Reed, “I did some practice fishing and caught a 24” Largemouth that went 9 pound and a 20” spot. I caught both fish Mid Strolling.” said Reed, “The fish were lethargic and really did not want to chase anything, but I found that if I strolled over rock piles the fish would commit.”

“The fish were on the bottom so I strolled a 4” Sakamata shad over the top of them.” prevailed Reed, “The fish moved off the rocks and stuck to the bottom where the mud was next to the rock.”

“I found fish from 20 to 45 feet deep on points and breaks before the fish moved to the mud.” stated Frazier, “I was using a 3/16-ounce range roller on 8-pound test line.”

Both Frazier and Doring thanked Yak a Bass for starting a new team series and all of James’ hard work at making these events run so smoothy.

The team of Joseph Silva and Jesse Hoover (team Lone Rangers) came in second place with a total of 86.50” Silva fished deeper with the Mid Strolling technique while Hoover fished shallow rock piles with a crank bait.

Silva struggled for the first 4 hours trying to find those suspended fish with the Mid Strolling while Hoover caught fish early and throughout the day.

Silva, “I found some fish near the ramp on some rock piles.” stated Silva, “I had to drop the bait right on top of the fish in 40’ of water. I had to hop the lure off the bottom to get the fish to commit and eat. I was using a 1/2-ounce range roller head with a shad patter 4” bait.”

Silva thanked his girlfriend for all her support and help with my fishing. Hoover thanked Yak a Bass for putting on the tournament and my team partner Joey.

Max Lee and Pua Yang (team Dog Dig) finished in third place with a total of 84.00”. They had practice fish up river and on the main lake areas.

Pua, “I had found fish on the main lake in ditches with rock around the area.” stated Yang, “Fishing was slow but the fish were big.”

Lee, “I fished the river area with a large swimbait and got several bites, but no fish.” reveled Lee, “I switched up to a Ned rig in rock piles in around 20-25 feet deep.”

“The Ned rig in the rock is what I caught all my fish with.” committed Lee, “I did catch a few Mid strolling on a Crush City 3.2” minnow. I also caught a few on the Keitech Jig dead sticking it near the fish that were in the ditches with mud and around the top of the rock piles.”

“I cycled through these baits but most of the fish came Mid Strolling the 3.2” minnow.”

Yang was using a tail spin in the ditches to catch his fish near the main lake areas.

Both Yang and Lee thanked Yak a Bass for starting a new series in a team format. A big shout out to NuCanoe, Kayak City and James for their support.
