Frog fishing has always been one of my favorite ways to catch them. Really, who doesn't like a frog? This year though, the frog bite has been excellent throughout my trips in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho.
Silver, Clear, Long, Spirit, and Coeur d'Alene are all lakes that I have had great success with the frog this year. Add the Pend Oreille River on a recent trip. There may have been a few more that I am forgetting. I'm sure I have already I have surpassed the fish totals from the last few years combined.
My last trip on the Pend Oreille River produced two fish in a quick evening trip and they were eating it deep. It has been that way all year and I have had a great hookup percentage compared to how it normally is where it's about 50/50 if you land them or not.
I'm not sure what made this year better than others but my guess is it was warmer earlier and the fact that I have been addicted to throwing it. It obviously helps to throw a bait a bunch if you want to catch more on it.
If you are headed out anywhere in this region, don't forget your frogs!
