This is a good thing , but why do I wonder about the timing of it. Surely our president would'nt play politics and hold off on these types of projects till he could gain favor with the voting public ?

I don't really care if a president, any president scores political points doing what he was elected to do. Protect American lives. Sitting presidents always seem to pull things out of their hat in election years, they all do it. The death of Bin Laden and now this rescue will be used extensively in his campaign for re election, rightfully so and I give him credit for it. But, he will need much more than getting Bin Laden and saving a couple workers in Somalia to get re elected, not much else in the way of accomplishments he can campaign on.

Commander in chief is a presidents first and foremost job, a very important one. I look at the military vote when a president seeks re election as a good indicator of how well he served in that capacity.
