Sonar magnet risk

Post by GKramer »

Had some of those Neodymium magnets (Gear Grabbar) on a previous rig and am looking to increase the number of those lure holders. But after reading the magnet warnings through Tackle Warehouse, the question is, "How close is too close?" as relates to these magnets and where my sonar are located, console and above TM.

It shouldn't be too much of an issue, unless you have the magnet near a heading sensor or rate compass which is in the Point One GPS antenna. Keep any magnets at least 3 feet away from those GPS antennas.

What kind of damage can they do?
I use magnets, set in silicone, as lure holders along the inside of my gunnels, between the carpet and the vertical gunnel face.

They won't do damage. But just like putting a magnet next to a compass, the Point 1 will not be able to provide accurate heading information if there is a magnet near it.
