Luckily, the two guys were okay!
According to an article, the lock nut on the hydraulic steering came off.....

Also check all external parts on a regular basis no matter how new the boat is! Motor vibration, rough water and trailer time on the roads have a tendency to loosen things, a quick once over every few trips could have prevented this, luckily they were wearing their PFD's and kill switch attached.

Glad to see they were both ok!! Noticed a lot of other competitors flying right by them while they were in the water. good to see at least one boat stopped.
Scary reminder to use your safety gear.

Bad things can happen when you least expect it! I don't care if you can swim across the English Channel...Your swimming skills don't matter when you get in a boating accident and get hurt. Wear those life jackets when the big motor is running!! Don't tempt fate!
