With the largest turnout we have seen in four years for a tournament at Lake Casitas 30 teams calmly set out to take on one of Southern California best bass lakes. With the RTF (Rich Tauber Fishing) Angler of the Year title and the Eric Elshere memorial cup looming large 60 fisherman worked their way into the Marina Café for the pre-tournament meeting. Veterans Billy and Bobby Nelson sent a message to everyone as they were smooth with their five bass limit weighing 20.52 pounds topped by a 6.56 big bass and worked their way to the stage with a monstrous crowd of people to collect their $3,010.00 in cash for the victory. Bobby explained that they moved around much of the lake concentrating on points and utilizing their go to bait a leadhead jig to take the title. The Nelson's now have taken over the early lead in the RTF Tour (formally know as WON BASS Casitas Teams) Angler of the Year standings. In second place was Lake Casitas superstar Larry Elshere fishing with his daughter Michelle as they put together a five fish bag topped by a 5.74 big fish with a total weight of 19.85 pounds to secure second place and $1,360.00 in cash. RTF Casitas tour rookie Kent Simmons and Jeff Dunn were spectacular with their five fish sack weighing 17.13 pounds and they put together a cool $860.00 in cash for their days effort. In fourth place were veterans John Karayan and Fred Klinshaw with 16.66 pounds as they collected $260 in cash. Team tournament superstars Ken Vanderburg and Stan Vanderburg got back together for this one and put together 16.58 pounds and collected $210 in cash. In sixth place was nighttime Angler of the Year Martin Brian who fished with ABA team tournament director Jason Hemminger and they put together 16.49 pounds and collected the Spencer MaKenzies Fish House award of $200 in cash for their sixth place finish. In seventh place were veterans Pat Ammerman and Joe McAlister with their 16.51 bag and they collected $160 for their days work. And sliding into the final pay spot where are 2016 Anglers of the Year Brian Evans and Matt Newman as they collected 16.12 pounds of bass and went home with $160. The next stop on the RTF BASS tour is February 11, 2017. Anglers that would like information on our next tournament can call or text tournament director Rich Tauber at 818-439-1154.
