Hunting Season (Smallmouth)

Post by ttb31183 »

I don't hunt, but this time of year I am basically hunting for a trophy. Each fall when many fellow anglers are in the woods, I am looking for big smallmouth. It is cold, often foggy and sometimes snowing but the big smallmouth are biting. I've managed several over 5 this fall but am still looking for that 6 plus.

One of my recent trips yielded some 4's and one that went 5.48lbs. It was one of the coldest days I can remember fishing for bass. It was 22-degrees when we launched.

Once we arrived at the lake, we were greeted with some thick fog. It is one thing that scares me when driving a boat, so we went slow and finally reached our spot.

Even with the cold weather the water temperatures were still right around 50-degrees and the fish were eating everything. Swimbaits, blade baits, Ned Rig, drop-shot and football heads. As the water cools the fishing will slow a little but there is still the chance for that big one I am hunting.
