transducer location

I have a 96 ranger 487vs and want to install a 3in1 transducer on the transom.The hull has a setback so there is no flat surface to mount the bracket. The old graph I have has a thru hull transducer. I've seen some people mount it to the jackplate but I dont have one. My thought is to fab some kind of custom bracket. Any suggestions ? Also I'm not to excited to drill holes in my boat and was wondering if anyone has had experience using epoxy to mount it? T

When you have a Ranger with the setback transom, most people mount the transducer flush on the bottom of the setback with the cable pointing towards the motor or back of the boat. To do this, drill six holes in the fiberglass for the mounting screws, you might need to tap the holes with threads to accomodate the screws. Place a small amount of silicone on the face of the ducer that will be in contact with the fiberglass to help hold it in place.

When you mount a ducer in this manner, you will need to go to the head unit menu after installation. Turn it on, when on the sonar menu choose "Flip Left and Right" so that the 3 in 1 ducer will show you what is to the left of the boat on the left side of the screen and so on. The ducer is default to show left and right when the cable coming out of the end of the ducer is pointing to the bow of the boat. When you install it so the cable is pointing to the back of the boat so the cable can be run up the transom and to the console in the same place the steering cables are running up to the console, the left and right are switched so this is why you need to change the menu option to "Flip Left and Right."

Thank you Ken. Your always a great help on this forum. Maybe you could answer another question for me? I want to install a HDS live 7 on the bow w/ sonar and down scan only. What ducer would I need ?

An HDI transducer gives you these two views of the two different sonar types. I have not tried one on a Live unit so I don't know how it works. I put an HDS Live on the front of my boat and got the HDS Live with the 3 in 1 ducer to put on the trolling motor. This way I have the traditional Broadband Sonar AND the Structure Scan at my feet. This ducer will give you all three views of the Structure Scan, Down, Left and Right. This is very helpful and if you get the bundle with the 3 in 1 ducer you have the two views you are looking for AND the other two. You can call Jim Slusher at Comfortroll and get one of his mounts that allow this ducer to be mounted on a trolling motor. His phone number is 805-610-5284. Here is a picture of the one on my boat. Mine is blue so it will show up in pictures like this. They come powder coated black for the public.
