The 5-day countdown to the 2019 Bass Pro Shop Open is now underway, bringing with it all the excitement and anticipation that comes with competing on one of the most fertile lakes in northern California.
Folsom Lake will again be “ground zero” for some of the most talented anglers in the west, as they look to showcase their skills on a lake that is blanketed with flooded willow trees, hidden rock piles, and river tributaries on both the north and south ends.
The format for the event is simple: 100 teams will compete on Folsom Lake for 2-days, after which only 10 teams will remain to compete in an exciting, final day “Bassmaster style” drive-by weigh-in, before a massive crowd at the Bass Pro Shops store in Rocklin!
At stake for their efforts: up to $10,000 and the Bass Pro Shops Open champion’s title.
An event supporting hope
But this year's event is extra special, as it reaches far beyond “fishing” and the satisfaction found in conquering nature and fellow competitors, as it will also help bring awareness and support to the Acres of Hope Foundation (https://www.acresofhopeonline.org), a renewal center dedicated to serving homeless women with children by providing them with a home and an environment of structured programming.
Located in the Sierra Foothills, Acres of Hope’s unique approach allows residents to live onsite for up to two years while staff and volunteers invest heavily in their lives by providing encouragement, practical life-skills training, job skills, mentoring and spiritual direction.
The Acres of Hope Foundation will be a big part of Sunday’s huge Outdoor Expo at the Rocklin Bass Pro Shops store, which will take place from 11 to 4pm, as they will have outdoor craft booths, and hourly raffles for all to enjoy.
